Hello, Ive been ordering halves from WFB & PNC for about a year now. I was told last week from PNC that their logistics cherry pick the collectables before delivering shipments now. So the question is can I order directly from the Fed coin vault? ( I know, amateur question).

I was wondering about it for awhile. I just didnt have the dough to hunt for a long time. Hoping to pick up the pace these next few years.

Our Loomis driver said that its not true. He said they receive the coins in bags, dump them into a hopper that counts them and then rolls them. There is no one looking over all the coins as they come in.

Hmmm rumors rumors everywhere....where theres $$$$, there are always sharks lurking somewhere. I had heard and/or read the rumor before but it was the first time the tellers had officially mentioned it. Perhaps I need to form a logistics company!

I can't imagine it would be profitable for them to do that. When you are roll hunting sure, you're just using your free time, but to actually hire people to do that? No way.

I have no idea weather logistics companies actually cherry pick or not.

However I can say you don't have to hire a trained monkey to do the cherry picking. Especially if you are just trying to separate clad coins from silver. All you have to do to machine separate clad from silver is roll the coins down a chute with strong magnets on either side of the chute. Clad coins end up in one bin and silver in another based on how strongly the coins interact with the magnets (eddy current breaking).

But if this were true, then why do people still find silver in Loomis rolls? If it's mechanically picked, then nothing should show up except in CWR. I tend to believe my Loomis driver when he says it's just dumped and rewrapped. I can't see a highly controlled cash room allowing employees to use work time to pick through money they want to keep. They probably have it set up to put tight limits on how much they can even have access to unwrapped and unrolled money because of theft.

Why would they tell the bank tellers that they are? Are they only joking or are they secretly allied to the Dark Side of the Force?

The one I talked to didn't seem to care one way or the other. I had no reason to not believe him.

Alright Ill keep searching. However since I live in a small town I suspect Ill need to search more in the metropolitan areas to find the good ones.
