I don't know what I'm talking about, BUT here goes... 3 is fake, and the ten AU 50 Just because yawl are picking on the BIG Indian
Looks like we have some smart whippersnappers here. The $10 is fake, and the $3 got an AU58. I had posted the $10 before on this forum and no one said anything about it looking fake, so I thought I would send it in. I was expecting the exact opposite results. Thought the $3 would be fake, as so many are, and the $10 get an AU58. I didn't think the $3 was AU58. I was thinking XF45-AU50. That's why I said I was shocked. I guess it's a soft strike in the hair.
Comparing these to photos of genuine coins, I'll say the $10 is a fake because the numerals 1 and 4 seem to have bell-bottoms, but the real coins don't. The $3 seems real but it is not a high grade...lack of detail in the head dress.
Yes, real gold. I sold a fake 1898 $20 gold as scrap a few months ago and got $1085 for the gold content. I love this design, so I can't decide if I will keep it for bullion, or sell it for scrap.
I don't know jack about fake coins, BUT: To me, the $10 Indian doesn't look like a good fake at all. The rim area is just really, really bad. I didn't even need to look at the rest of the coin. Now that I do, yeah, I guess the rest of the coin would fool me. But a nice fellow by the name of @GDJMSP taught me to always start with the rim and move inwards. Maybe you've heard of him? @Agilmore01 , thanks for sharing with us, this has been educational.
I thought the rim was weird also, but no one told me any different, so I moved ahead and "invested" $40 into PCGS telling me it was no good. At least I can get about $500 worth of gold out if it
I am no expert in gold and so how can you tell. I thought the $3 is the fake. Yeah the 10 rim look funny but it could be a striking issue. But again I am expert in fake gold coins.
