Got this at the Baltimore Expo yesterday for $52. Anyone ever seen this type of font on their holder before? Also, I was wondering if it could be the Repunched Mintmark. FS-501. IDK. Thanks for the help and opinions!
In the NGC generations slab thread from a few years ago Conder shows one slab, a Generation 8 from 2000 only, that is similar. The only difference is the slab from Conder's thread doesn't have the serial number bleeding into the brown border. I take it back, there is at least another difference. Conner's Gen 8 slab doesn't have the logo behind the text. According to Conder, this was the only slab where the serial number appeared below the barcode.
That would just be the image, the logo IS there behind the text. (On my laptop when you first look at the image you have to look carefully to se the logo but as I tip the screen away from me the logo becomes more visible. It is there.) As for the serial number running into the border, the border and logo are on the label and the printing of the information is just slightly "off-center". It is a slightly scarce slab since it was only used for about a month which would mean only 150 - 200 K were produced. That sounds like a lot until you consider they do more than million slabs a year and that was 14 years ago. Plus the crack outs, regrades, and crossovers done since then that have reduced the population of existing examples.
Do you think it had something to do with 1946? Or maybe even 1946-D? These are the only ones I have seen.
