there are various treatments, here what i do...with some success. scrape off what you can soak in distilled water for a 2-3 days (maybe add some of baking soda, at least for first soak) change out water do a couple more days remove from water and bake it at 210 F for 30 minutes (this dries up the water) i would then use this stuff (verdi-care)... http://www.wizardcoinsupply.com/products/verdi-care.html
Forget about "baking" it for half an hour - likely to do much more harm than good, as that locks and hardens any remaining particles into the surfaces. Lay the coin on a paper towel, all the "water" will disappear in a few minutes.
Can you post a picture of the coin you want to treat? Are you sure it has BD? Not all green is bad. You need to know the difference.
I saw the post, that is why I asked. Are you sure that the green is bronze disease? If you can look at the coin under high magnification, is the green powdery? Does it come off if you scratch it with your fingernail? If you take a needle and very gently brush the point against the green, does is flake off? If it does not flake off then it is not BD. The coin below does not have BD. It did have a green mineral deposit that was increasing as time went on and was spoiling the coin. Your coin should not be touched if it doesn't have BD.
The green on your coin doesn't look like bronze disease to me. The green on your coin looks hard. By contrast, the green on a coin afflicted by bronze disease will be powdery and light. You can easily break up the powder with your fingernail or any implement.
If I were you, I would buy some Verdi-Care, it is good to have it in stock in case of need. I got two bottles of the stuff because the shipping is extortionate. And rather than baking, I use silica bags, that come in hand bags, cameras etc. I bought a large one from ebay, you can put it in the microwave to "recharge" it. It lives in a plastic bag. Coins go in the plastic bag to dry out. Not had to microwave it yet.
What is the "other" forum? ......... although I don't have your cool coin in-hand, I agree with the others => if the green stuff is easily disturbed by nudging it with a wooden toothpick then it's probably trouble (bd) ... otherwise, how cool is that hard green patina? (very cool) ... good luck to you (please tell us how this tale ends)
