Hey Guys Last fall I sold about 4 coins to DLRC. One of the coins was a 1926-S Buff nickel that I had paid $110 for. I had sent it to NGC and it came back VF20 and I sold it for $250. DLRC has since then put it in auction after auction with a reserve alot higher than what they paid for it and never have sold it. http://www.davidlawrence.com/auctio...bf8cd04ef-687DCB56-2BFC-0A80-302B1E1D25D442B6 This time it looks like they lowered the reserve and will take a $30 lost if they sell it. I'm guess I'm glad that I sold it before the "market" went down some. What gets me is that when they have a coin up with the "Make an offer" tab they have a little write up that says... Please only offer alittle less than the posted price because we buy coins at close to what we sell them at. I've got another one of these off at NGC and if it comes back VF (and that is a pretty sure bet) I guess I will hold onto it. Oh well.... Speedy
doesn't look VF to me, I know standards have gotten looser for Bison reverse nickels, but it looks Fine to me, and not terribly attractive.
Well all in all it is a really nicely struck coin---the 1926-S Buff is known for a weak strike...with most UNC coins not even having a Full Horn. Therefor when grading this date you almost always take it up one point than if it was another date. While it isn't attractive---not many are What I think is funny is to be looking through an auction and come to a coin that I use to own!... Speedy
That is pretty funny. To me, it just doesn't quite have great eye appeal for a VF-20 coin, although it does have a nice strike for a 1926-S. I'm betting some people think it is overgraded. The way the market is currently, I bet that same exact coin brings around $300.00 in a PCGS holder.
I'll try to post photos of the other one when it comes back from NGC. IMHO it has a "better look" to it....and I think it has little more detail on the horn. From what I've been seeing these coins sell for about the same in NGC or PCGS slabs. But of course that could have changed. Speedy
