Hello. Just some questions and thoughts from me. I am wondering why the gloss differs so heavily of these Hyperpyron minted under Andronicus II. The first 4 lots here you will see Hyperpyron from the late Byzantine era, however they look very “silver” out: https://www.pecunem.com/byzantine-coins/auction-34/48/96 Here the lot 655, which is exactly the same Hyperpyron, that gloss look very “gold” https://www.pecunem.com/byzantine-coins/auction-33 So why that different gloss? Different camera settings? Or because different environments?
And one more thing if any has comments: https://www.pecunem.com/byzantine-coins/auction-34/48/96 About the lot 1179 the coin has been attributed as Michael II. – Do any experienced collectors agree with that attribution? Because I see basically nothing, I see no persons standing, I see no details. I see only an extremely low grade coin which make any identification impossible. – But I want to hear what the experienced collectors say.
Notice their description of the reverse is: Manuel standing facing, holding cruciform sceptre. Perhaps we should substitute Manuel for the other Michaels in their listing and call it a typo. I know nothing about the coin but do not see much resemblance to the Sear plate coin. That could be me as much as the coin. I wonder why they show the obverse on the right side. Another typo.
