HA got your attention.. This contest is for people with a little bit of drive though.. IT ENDS ON APRIL 27th 2007, midnight EST. This is a searching contest.. and an exercise in reading and complying with rules. Exploit gaps in them if you can. PRIZE LIST *will grow*: 1) I recently searched 8 rolls of cirrculated Jefferson Nickels. You get ALL the pre-1966 coins. Searched.. but every one will go to the winner. None have more than 2 steps. One S coin. earliest 1941. Your entries will be judged. No explanation will be given as to the partial point values received for the subjective tasks and no appeals will be held .. but I may ask you questions about your submissions for purpouses of point determination. You may choose to find ALL of these.. or SOME.. but the highest point-total wins. Winner decided up to 24 hours after contest end due to some of the tasks. You must NOT use the same links as previous submitters. DO NOT EDIT YOUR POSTS.. if you want to add to your entry, QUOTE IT and add the additions/changes below the quoted text.. This way it won't look like you copied your link from new posts into your own. The times and dates on the posts will be used to determine who was FIRST if there are duplicate links. What to SEARCH for.. (Links required) 3 to 5 points: PROVIDE A LINK to 1 currently running ebay auction for 1 to 5 COINS with a FINAL BID VALUE that comes closest to $40 (no 'BIN $40 auctions please) - - $39 and $41 are worth the same as far as hitting the target. your link MUST BE HERE at least 4 hours before the auction end. the top 3 links will receive points. You must not bid on the auction but how would I know? heh heh... 3 points: provide a link (and specific text found) to a future conventional auction (one where you could drive there and bid) site with "ESTATE" coins, which specifically lists ANY single coin by year and mint, or by year and grade. This can be a online newspaper ad, auction-house site. Provide the link and a cut-and-paste of the SENTANCE from the ad that satisfies the task. Tip: Partial credit for an auction NOT SPECIFICALLY "ESTATE" that satisfies. 3 points: Provide a link to a current or past online COIN RELATED periodical article that you simply disagree with what an "expert" has said, and in few terms.. write what the author has written that is incorrect, misleading, uninformed, etc. More points awarded for the severity of the article author's "error" in MY VIEW. Your comments will help me.. I'm no expert. (in fact you could probably fool me with anything even mildly obscure.. bravo if so.) Tip: If the author's credentials are NOT listed, and he is not well know TO ME (ie Ken Potter etc) then points will suffer if I can't determine the degree of his "expert" status. That's it! 11 points possible. Here is the kicker.. 10 is an A+. 11 points will DISQUALIFY YOU... so you GENIUSES will also have to supress the overacheivment complex and purpously sabotage one entry ;P Sorry.. MY RULES hehee.. EXTRA CREDIT 1 point: (and exemption from the "11 points" disqualification).. provide a link to any one of the other compeditor's COIN TALK posts where that person has mis-spelled 2 words in a single paragraph. ;p That compeditor will have ONE POINT DEDUCTED from his/her score. High-post count people are at a disadvantage here unless they go back and edit all their posts teehee.. Have fun.. The additional prizeS themselves will be slowly announced 24 hours before the close of the contest... plus or minus me being online at that time. Should this contest go berzerk with conflict, negativity, or the like.. I will award the listed prize at will and end the contest.
Prize Accumulation Yeah I kinda hope I don't have to score 80 entries though you know? ;P THIS POST IS WHERE I WILL LIST THE ADDITIONAL PRIZES. These will get progressively better.. I will list them UP UNTIL 24 hours from the end... (mis-stated above) 2) 1 full roll of unsearched buffalo nickels - no dates (rubbed off). a few you can see the dates BARELY and are in the teens. I paid alot for these at an estate auction and they turned out to lack dates. I have not gone through them looking for anything special other than the existance of visible dates. 3) a chance to trade all the prizes for door #5. 4) 1 2003 gold plated Jefferson Nickel. OIV. 5) Door number 5 contains a single coin sealed by the US Mint in it's original packaging. The value may be more or less than the group of prizes in #1, 2, and 4. The winner may choose between the original prizes #1, 2, and 4.. -OR- may choose door #5 whereas they will forfeit prizes #1, 2, and 4.. and take home the mystery coin. The value of the mystery coin will be no less than any ONE of the original listed prizes.
They are just to many in line for this contest :goofer: Fishy :goofer: Lets hope we are alive in a year

uhh...I posted my ebay item when there was just over 4 hrs left on bidding QUESTION.... the timer is still ticking when you click the link. ...so how will you know it was posted 4 hrs before bid end?
If you look at the upper left of the text box containing any posting at CoinTalk, you will see the posting time (in your own time zone). Every completed EBay listing has the ending time in the Pacific time zone given just below the final bid price. It's pretty easy to convert the posting time to the matching Pacific zone time, and compare it with the auction end.

3 - http://www.usmint.gov/pressroom/index.cfm?flash=yes&action=press_release&ID=724 This article relates to the U.S govs ban on coin melting. The ban itself is somewhat laughable. You can leave the country with no more than 5.00 in coin in your pocket OR export 100.00 worth at any one time. HUH? If they are so concerned with coin being shipped out to be melted down, then why allow any to be exported. The new regulations authorize a fine of not more than $10,000, or imprisonment of not more than five years, or both, against a person who knowingly violates the regulations. ......."new regulation? what regulation? what are you talking about? Im not melting coin, why would I want to do that?" GREAT scare tactic! How exactly do they plan on enforcing this ruling? The coin in your pocket is your property, to do with as you like. When it is actually in circulation, it belongs to the government. What they really want is not to have to make any more because they can't afford it. SO you can't melt it down, but it doesnt say anything about hoarding, which seems to be what people are doing So hoard people!. Ive been saving Lincolns but Im in Canada, so does this ruling apply to me if they are in circulation up here? If I take Mr. Lincoln and set fire to him, will I go to jail? The new law is vague and uninforcible for the average Joe. You would have to get caught at a smelter with a ton of coin for them to do anything. So the point to all of this...they will have to produce more cents and nickels whether they like it or not with a cheaper alloy. The Mint shouldn't have said anything in the first place. They now have created a shortage monster which will only get worse and will continue to drive the price of silver and copper up. My opinion....the multitude of Washington errors is nothing but a setup by the Mint. They are causing a buying hoarding frenzy to make a financial gain for their silver/copper blunder.
If anyone is friendly with a MODERATOR maybe we should change the TITLE.. Contest is over next week! I'm caught up with the Scoring. Nice stuff people! Game is not over by any stretch.. by design. Check the updated prize list too.. (post #3) Thanks SATO for answering about the 4 hour thing.. dead on!.. and part of the reason to NOT edit the entry posts!
