Just another Valens...

    Scored this gem for ~$17 (photos are close but it still looks better in hand). When I look at it i the level of detail reminds me of really nice solidii.

    Emperor Valens was the guy that went into typical-Roman-glory-hog mode at the worst possible time, by not waiting for his brother Gratian and his forces to back him up to face the Goths in Thrace so he could achieve the victory and the accompanying glory for himself. As a result, Valens got himself and most of the Eastern Roman army killed at Adrianople in 378.

    That coin is fresh. Check out that Chi-Rho on the Standard! Absolutely excellent for a LRB.

    fatastic LRB...one of the sweetest valens coins i've seen.

    here's my sweetest valens...not near as nice, but not shabby.

    They don't get any better than that. On any given day, you can find a thousand of these types in F and lower, a handful in VF. It's a very unusual day to come across one in XF.
