What??? Wouldn't that be the same panel that blew the Truman Set, as well as other issues?

Could be. Where can we "track" / know how the panel works and decisions made???
Did the Panel vote on the currency change for a gal on the future $20.00 note and did they/ are they inputting on the Woman chosen?

Who knows, the mint is very secretive, to the point it is terrible customer service.

I agree with NSP until reading about these Chronicle sets on this forum I was unaware of them. My honest opinion is the mint makes too many coins already. I'm personally not interested. If the mind does offer coin sets however they should ensure they are available to a wider group of collectors. I vote to increase mintage to 25k and lower the household amount to 2.

That's the mint for you, one terrible decision after another. So, with a limit of 2 and 17k mintage it will sell out in 20 minutes instead of 12. Still way too fast and the mint forgoes profit.

The mint should just raise the price on the rest of the sets to $150 bucks or so. It's what collectors that weren't able to get one from the mint are paying for the Truman sets now.
It would would remove the middle man and the profits would go to the general fund instead of helping fund some fat cats yacht.
The two per household will not discourage flippers, it will make it slightly harder for them and they may not get quite as many as they want.
With the price the Truman is fetching I think the Ike will put the mints site to the test, it will be interesting.

Yeah, that's a good idea, let's all pay more than the high markup we're already paying. When the mint starts sucking all the profit there is in an issue, that's when I stop buying.

  9. They could have easily sold these out for $99.95 each. Speculators looking to submit and get 70s are driving up the price now. This will fade as number of 70s increases.

Or they could have sold 50k to 100k of them for $15 without the ounce of silver. Since I'm not a flipper, I prefer the mint issue coins that are low mintage, yet high enough that most collectors have a day to a week or even a couple months to order, and that they make enough to cover their cost. Since when did everyone accept that a government agency, owned by the people, should be allowed to gouge coin collectors to pay for programs that all taxpayers should have to pay for? We, the Coin Collectors, need our own lobby to reign the mint in.

  11. You could say the same thing about the MoD sets. Why do we need to buy the silver proof dollar that's already offered individually? Seems like the mint is into "bundling" these days, or should I say "bungling?" Lol :D

The Mint has to throw y'all a bone every now and then. If they didn't y'all would be crying because they made to many.

True, but that bone should be a mintage that pleases most collectors and allows them to get one, not a mintage that excludes most collectors, yet enriches the dealers/flippers. That mintage would be in the 50k to 100k range, as those mintages have been received very well by collectors and the market.

  16. The MoD sets were 75K mintage (right in the middle of your ideal range) and that did not dissuade flippers and please collectors.

Only problem with that is it did please collectors, most had plenty of time to buy. Some will always get left out, but 17k leaves too many out. So, at 75k most of the flippers & collectors were happy. Granted, too many are being flipped, so they'll be lucky to get their money back in the short run, so they may not be that happy and that may dissuade flippers in the future. After the flippers are done and the sets begin to settle into collections, 75k will make collectors even happier.

  18. What do you think would happen if the mint just delayed announcing their mintage or product limits until a certain time period passes after release? I am not taking about mint to demand or unlimited mintages. They can do their market research and have an idea of how many to make to meet that demand. Mintage numbers or production limits could be announced after the product has been out for say a month and collectors can get their fill (dealers too).

Are you talking about adjusting limits or mintages after orders are placed? If so, that's where the mint further blew Truman, they could have adjusted the limit down, as they reserve the right to do. As for not stating mintage until after ordering begins, well, I really don't like that, as it does pretty much make it mint to demand, which would create higher mintages, even though that would be the most "fair" to all collectors and the flippers would have to become long term speculators (like me).
