I've had this Mt. Washington Cog RR medal foe a while and I like to put my medals in those Coin World slabs. Well I tried the 1/2$ size 30.6mm but it's to large so I try the 33.4mm still a little large. Ha then I see this rubber band on my desk check out the results. ROFLMAO 2014.JPG

I hope there's no chemical reaction from the rubber. I don't know the value, but if it's a rare coin - I'd get the rubber out of there. Think about a rubber band 5 years from now when it's stuck and gummy and falling apart.

    It does fit nicely though!

That coin's going to have a dark beard in no time at all if you leave a rubber band pressed against it.

Indeed it will. While it works as a shim, it is a bad idea.

Get your hands on an Air-Tite ring and make a shim out of one of those.

Similarly if the coin is too big for the hole, just go get your file and sand those edges down.

You can cut shims from a Mylar flip. I've done it many times for Capitol holders.

Well, if it's too big, that is why they invented the hammer.

Or if you prefer, the manually operated, vertically deployed, inertial impact device. :D

Easy enough, an Air-Tite with a ring in it ;)

Somebody had a stack of silver dollars with a rubber band around them which reacted badly with the silver.
Then someone dipped it big time to try to remove the black, which is now a white stripe across a mirrored surface. peaceRubber_0001.jpg

Uhhhh, there's nothing in the book that says you cannot sand the opening larger. Start with a big grit then work your way down until you get a nice fit. The same is true of Dansco's.

Just keep the vacuum close by to suck off the dust.

Use scotch tape if the static electricity gets to strong.

Dump the rubber band since I've heard that it has a sulphur compound in it and it will literally ruin the coin. Folks have known this for at least 50 years if not longer.

Rubber bands are high in sulfur content, and will destroy your coins.

If you want to use a Coin World holder, I suggest you buy one for a smaller coin, and machine the insert to the necessary diameter.

    Just to clarify
