These are pictures of a coin currently on Ebay (not my coin). It's supposedly a 1999 P Dime Double Struck on a 1981 Quarter. I know the first thing you might think is "Vise Job" or "Squeeze Job" and also "Sandwiched Coin" but that would of made the image of the Dime in reverse and incused! The pictures show it looking normal. I'm not saying it's real and recently there was a thread on Mint Assisted Errors so my thoughts is that this could be one also. @Old Error Guy
Oh and here is the Ebay link - I want to share this webpage with you http://www.ebay.com/itm/201387311846?rmvSB=true I'm watching this item to see how much it sells for. It's in the United Kingdom and the person has 100% positive feedback. I just realized the seller has another - Interesting USA Error - 1944 Mercury Dime doublestruck over 1968 s Nickel - His title says Quarter http://www.ebay.com/itm/Interesting...491?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item2ee39e7d9b
So Hes saying the mint took a nickel from 1968 and loaded an old merc die (that by that time all mercury dies were prolly defaced) into a press and struck the nickel? Im gonna call BS on both coins. I too shall watch. i want to see how many suckers there are in this world lol
Looks like someone spent a good bit of time creating something that is: A. Literally impossible B. Convincing enough for some fools to place bids on it. robthomasdesigns
I would think the the doubled die dime would be worth more without being stuck to the quarter. Looks harshly cleaned though. Edit to add: I just noticed the quarter is a D and the dime a P. Hmmmmmm
Sure! The Mint was striking 1981-D quarters and 1999-P dimes at the same time. Maybe they met half way......like in St. Louis in 1990. Chris
Hey you know what I have a 1981 cent that I have been posting on another site that I don't go to no more, it shows a print on the reverse side of a homestead 2015 quarter. I have not posted it but I mentioned it on someone's topic. I know it's impossible but that's what I see.
It looks to me like someone made there own dime die using some sort of tools to transfer the dime designs. Once they made the die using tool steel, they then hand stamped the dime design into the quarter/nickel. It's pretty cool, but borderline counterfeiting. There is no way it is a legit US Mint error.
Hi paddyman I think it struck with fake die on one side again after leave mint , i dont think it Mint Assisted Errors ,
There was that case of the barber dime on the quarter that did get graded by one of the major grading services. Heres a link with some of those odd coins. http://coinauctionshelp.com/uscoin_struckonaforeignplanchet.html
