Wow, chrsmat => that's a very sweet Nero addition!! (congrats) ... I love the Serapis reverse (well played) ... man, ya gotta love those Alexandrian gems!)
That's augustus, obviously... the ceasarea coin you were thinking was a didrachm, should weight 7 gram. I've been trying to find one, one of the skinny portrait of nero, but he was never that skinny
I have one Nero to share, better than some not as good as others but its my sole Nero coin at the moment. I have owned several provincial bronzes but they found new homes either as gifts or to finance other collecting areas. Antioch, Syria Nero Regnal year 8, Caesarian year 110, (AD 61/62) AR Tetradrachm 25 mm x 14.05 grams Obverse: NERWNOS KAISAROS SEBASTOU, Laureate bust right, wearing aegis. Reverse: Eagle standing left on thunderbolt, palm branch before, H/IP behind. Ref: RPC4182
Hi Brassnautilus, Probably my missunderstanding of english, I don't know how to read both your comments above : - That can't be other than Nero on the tet picture you quoted, despite the style of engraving - Which didrachm are you referring to ? Any coin of mine ? The only Caesarea coin I have ever possessed was a Plautilla drachm and posted as such as far as I remember. Or is this comment for someone else ? My appologizes if I'm completely "out" Q
nah, that's Augustus. this is nero, not the same portrait. Also, this is a didrachm, weight 7-7.5gr. The one you post was a tet Here's another copy
I've seen this attributed to nero, but it was tooled. Anyway, it's aggripina jr. Note the female face on your coin was much older. People often underestimate ancient artists' ability...
