I have a few of these Castorland Jetons, and I would like to know the ways to distinguish between original strikes and the restrikes. Is there any reference book that details a lot of info on these Jetons, including exact weights, and most important - photos of originals Vs. restrikes, etc.? Any info would be greatly appreciated! Thanks, Oded Paz
Josef Neumann's "Beschreibung der bekanntesten Kupfermünzen". There are supposedly six volumes(!) Gotta read German, though: https://archive.org/details/beschreibungder05neumgoog Saw this image on flickr: https://www.flickr.com/photos/coinbooks/5025042372 You got me interested in this...
Check the Redbook. Castorland was a French colony established in upper New York in the late 1700's. The Jetons/tokens were either a promotional medal or a coinage proposal. I know they come as both originals and restrikes but I don't know enough about the to be able to tell them apart.
Sorry for being away since I asked my question. I found some info online, but cannot find any definite answer regarding what are the "tell" signs between an original and a restrike. Also, I know there are thin and thick planchets - what are the thicknesses of both planchets? I have more questions than answers for now...
