I found this in change today and can't tell if someone had fun stacking some quarters together and putting them in a clamp or if this is some sort of error. What says the error experts? I tried to take at least some decent pictures with my scope, but a Dino-lite it is not! Thanks for any info... Are you saying that his response is LAME? If so, why? The coin is has all the earmarks of a classic squeeze job.
Maybe it would help the OP if you explained why. Anytime you see lettering that is backwards, it is a sure sign of a squeeze job. Chris
That's for sure, but I'm not the best person to do it. I still get a bit confused when trying to reason about capped dies and brockage, mint errors that can produce reversed lettering. (As opposed to doubled dies or overstruck coins, which should never have reversed features.)
Hi ALL, I'm sorry was away. My LAME comment was not directed to @-jeffB .... And to @19Lyds I apologize if you thought that as well to @cpm9ball for clarifying the coin itself. I said it in a snarky way I guess, like "way to destroy my dreams of finding an error coin with your quick and rational response". I guess it didn't transmit through the tubes properly Also it is indeed "lame" that someone would purposely deface a coin like that and get a collector like me all excited to take pictures, create a thread and poll and then end up having egg on my face in more than one way. Again, no insults intended to ANYONE, just an improperly worded exclaim.
Well, for what it's worth, I understood your reply in the spirit it was intended. No offense taken. I found an online error reference that has some useful definitions and discussions. (It's not perfect; I can only link to specific pages, like "Partial Brockage" and "Full Brockage", rather than a higher-level entry for "Brockage"). "Squeeze Job" Partial Brockage Full Brockage Partial Die Cap
Nice pics--- keep searching--backwards letters---think there was a post with pics on this forum...same thing...can anybody post it for more info of squeeze jobs???
