I have put my coin buying on hold in order to save up enough to go to a show in columbus ohio next month.

I have bought nothing for the last 2 months. This is driving me crazy! I still jump on ebay and sift through the seated dimes and quarters knowing all along I can't bid. Driving up to lowes the other day, passing the coin shop and wanting to stop in, but I knew better.

It's gave me the chance to sort back through my collection and go through some cent rolls I have put off. Also been doing a lot of reading (via the internet) on coins in general, mostly ancient's and the seated series.

Anyone else have to save up or do you buy a little here and there?

I feel your pain, lol. I am saving up what I can and just spening my money on RPM cents. Right now that is what I am devoted to lol. And it is all because of you. You are the one to blame. :D lol, just joking. I guess I have to thank you for getting me started in them. but, that is what Iam saving up my money for (which is pretty limited lol) Have fun at the coin show! Any particular things you are going to buy?

I dabble here and there all year, more through the winter months. I do the same as you in my major purchases, save up for the 2 or 3 coin shows I try to hit every year (Las Vegas & Twin Cities). I too "window shop" on eBay, putting stuff in my watch just to see what it goes for. Also, I use Mr. Wantlist through Teletrade so every few days an email will come from them letting me know there's coins I shouldn't be buying in upcoming auctions.

IMO, a person that has to save up for awhile to purchase something is going to appreciate it more than the person that can just slap down the green on a whim. And I believe that has every thing to do with the anticipation.

I've got a coin show to go to tomorrow. I dont need to really save any money but what bothers me is the wait for the coin show to get here. I do however limit myself to what I can spend at each show...normally $300-400 about four times a year. Plus I do buy on Ebay and from the local coin shop in between shows.

Hey phoenix, some seated dimes and any OBW cent rolls I can find is what I have thought of purchasing, just depends on what the show has for me I guess. Maybe a couple of bags of wheaties to look through.

I will not have a lot of cash to spend.

Will Post my finds when I get back.

libertyseated, I do the same thing. I do 95% of my buying at 3 or 4 shows a year. Its qorth the wait, and I find the best deals at shows. You'll get used to it, and the itch to buy coins will come less often. I find roll searching to be a good cheap way to feed my addiction between shows.

I love searching rolls. I get on a roll buying kick and find I have to many to go through, so some are left for those "waiting" days when my funds are froze.

Ebay probably has a negative effect on the quality of coin collections. It's just too easy to spend a lot of money without much thought. I don't use it anymore. Saving money for a few special purchases is probably the better way to go.

Maybe I'll jump over to Ebay to see what's for sale....

I put money back every week for christmas for my kids, family vacation and home improvement stuff. At the end of of month I'm pretty tapped out of cash.

Rolled change, income tax refund, and my small xmas bonus is my coin buying power.

But I still manage to get a fair amonut of decent stuff.

    Happy Hunting
