I don't have better pictures of this and have low expectations once I do get better pictures. Anyone care to give a grade?

I may send it for grading. If it is at least AU55, I paid the right amount for it.

I believe it is XF. These are really hard to grade without seeing the luster in hand.

I figure any US gold coin is worth submitting to NGC or PCGS.

While these are really tough to grade, it doesn't matter too much if you mess up because the difference in value between an XF and an AU is only like $20.

I won't be able to give a grade with those pics but I will say, I doubt it's gonna grade AU. The Indian's cheek bone has pock marks and so does his headdress. Could be just the pics tho. Also, the coin looks to have sticky surfaces to me, again maybe just the pics.

I agree. It's really tough from those pictures because the color is all washed out

I agree that the posted pics are tough to judge from. I think I see a hint of a circular line inside the rim, indicative of a former jewelry piece. My $5 Indian is like that, but more pronounced.

No. Not from a pic. I have owned many of these and sometimes a counterfeit STILL sneaks by me. The last fakeerouniee I bought was of better quality than the US mint made. That said, on uncirculated pieces, one grades the fields more than the devises.

Just now saw this post. That is a fake coin, I 100% guarantee it. The 1908 was the first year they were made, and they did not have that much detail on the eagle's shoulder/wing that year.

Here is a MS65 example of what the Eagle wing and shoulder should look like. Notice the lack of details on the shoulder top. Any that have more details are fake.

Yup, + the color is off, + the coin looks grainy.

Interesting, bought the coin from an ebay "government auction". I wonder if I should ask for my money back? I expect the other damaged coins are fakes too then.

No, I live in Thailand and have had it delivered to a family member's house in the US and it is in a safe deposit box now.

I will visit before end of the year and get some close up photos and post them when I can.
