Exactly how many different varities of errors are there of the Washington $1 coin and what are they? Any info on this?

    Thanks,

well, the easy answer is .. just how high can you count?

Depends on what you call a variety. There is suppose to be a proof, mint state and what Daggarjon said. Does the gold and platinum plated and those colorized coins count?

    Few varieties... many errors.

Many of the coins that people are describing as errors are within Mint Specifications of an Acceptable Coin. Of course, just because the Mint deems it fit for circulation, does not mean that the coin is perfect, or even pretty.

As for how many mint/variety combinations there are, it's probably a surprisingly large number.

One variety you won't find anywhere, the elusive MS67 or higher. (Unless you buy an SGS MS70, which are everywhere, and oddly scratched, but that must be ok)

Those aren't scratches, those are structural integrity folds designed into the coin to keep it from buckling under all the pressure of scrutiny. All the coins missing them are just plain errors.

    $1 Washington rolls

I have a chance to buy 30 rolls at $28 / roll. Does that sound like a good deal for a chance to serch for errors?

    Kid,

What area are we talking about. I have not had any luck getting any more than loose ones. Five limit per customer.

My very patient bank tellers are even willing to take the 25 coins from the roll I just opened, and exchange them for a new roll. I've gone through quite a few, and it looks like they need to change the composition on these coins. I stashed a couple in my wallet, in case of emergency, and they look like garbage. I'm hoping they come through with the silver set on these, I'm sure they'll do much better.
