Rome, 4th officina. That was my guess in the other thread. The symbol in the middle is a wreath. The pic is good. No apologies needed!
Yep, you got it just from verbage. A wreath! I spent hours searching old alpha's for that symbol. Once again thanks John.
Electric as opposed to the old manuel, put in a roll of film, set the film speed, set the shutter speed, set the f stop, focus and shoot. The type people of my age use/used.
On ancient Greek coins, alpha is written A. Occasionally one finds it in an archaic form, without the crossbar, looking like the modern lambda: Λ. This can get confusing as the ancient form of lambda is the same as the modern. The modern lower-case alpha, α, is never found on ancient coins. Lower case letters are a later development in the alphabet. Also, on Roman coins, the Greek alphabet is only found in the provinces. Your coin is an Imperial issue.
JA makes fun of my camera. In truth the largest I ever owned was 8x10" but I used a 24x24" that belonged to my employer. I still value a magazine International Photo Technik no.4/1970 which has an article "Coins in Color" by William H. Sayre detailing the author's photography of ancient coins with a 5x7" view camera that got me interested in shooting coin photos but I never tried filling the frame on a view camera with a coin as did Mr. Sayre. I never copied his techniques directly but adapted several ideas. Most notable was his use of a small pedestal to hold the coin off the background enough that the texture was out of focus. I even found a copy of that issue of the magazine for sale online (but the seller says US only). https://www.etsy.com/listing/192946..._query=photography magazine&ref=sr_gallery_26 I still have a 5x7" view camera in the attic but have not owned film for it for 25 years. I am perfectly happy now with my digital images.
I'm tempted to buy that because, you know, sex sells. Maybe I should put some sex into my coin sales?
Well JA, I can tell right now => if you get into some lil' shorts and straddle the tripod, then I am definitely "out!!"
