Since there has been a trade embargo on Cuba, since the 60's, is Cuban money worth more in the U.S.? Also a lot of old American coins are in Cuba. Buffalo Nickels, Mercury Dimes, Wheat-Ear pennies and other old coins are somewhat abundant in Cuba. Most of it brought there by American tourists in the 40's and 50's.

It looks cool, the 10 pesos have the Coat of Arms on the obverse side and a fort (forgot the name) on the reverse. Other coins and paper money have the faces of Jose Marti and Che Gueverra on them.

I've been to Cuba and I did not see any old US coins. Of course there are some there, but they are not "abundant".

As for the value of Cuban money - it is not especially rare but is worth saving especially in unc. condition, in my opinion. This applies to regular coinage - there is a lot of commemorative junk out there that is just a curiosity, not a serious numismatic collectable.

It is possible for Americans to visit Cuba, but they must go through a third country such as Canada,Jamaica,or the Bahamas. As to bringing Cuban banknotes & coins into the U.S. as a souvenir of your trip there,I don't know what the regulations & penalties are, that is,if there is a penalty for bringing back a Cuban 3 Pesos coin depicting Che Guevara on the obverse,or that Cuban 10 Pesos banknote.

Amercians who have a license from the US govt or meet strict general guidelines (family in Cuba, etc.) can fly from Florida. Illegal travelers must fly from a 3rd country.

Technically speaking, I think that any coin/note made since the embargo is prohibited, but they trade on ebay with no issues (thus was not the case several years ago). Some of the Non-Circ Legal Tender coins from Cuba were made under contract elsewhere and have never been in Cuba - and some claim that fact makes them legal (not sure of this reasoning, since Cuba presumably got a piece of the action).

Cuban coins are in some demand in the US and are completely legal. Very few
come in because of the embargo but there is some flow with most of them com-
ing from Canada. The coins made since 1958 are not difficult but the circulation
issues seem to be impossible to locate anywhere in uncirculated condition. They
don't list for much money in the catalogs but unless quantities of these exist in
Cuba there will be a big realignment in prices when the embargo is lifted and re-
    lations normalize.

So,can you find the 3 Pesos depicting Che Guevara & a banknote depicting Fidel Castro on them in America? I should put my Cuban 3 Pesos on eBay if that is the case.Who knows,a bidder in the U.S. could be the lucky person,eh?
