I never really liked the choice for Kennedy's $1 coin (JFK-01). Why show a president looking down? In my opinion, it's a strange pose to choose. After I saw the other design options (below) on CoinNews, I wondered why the Mint would have chosen that one over the others. Personally, I would have chosen JFK-04, which I think is the best pose and also looks the most like him. What do you think of the design they chose? Which one would you have chosen? http://www.coinnews.net/2014/03/17/2015-presidential-1-coin-design-candidates/ (You can also find the design ideas there for Eisenhower and Johnson.)
2 and 4 are my favorites, with 2 winning. 5 seems like he is in a daze, and 3 looks like a cartoon with giant eyes.
#1 Just looks stupid. #3 Is just too cartoonish #4 Looks too much like Bobby Kennedy #5 Looks like a Mask. Worse yet, it looks like someone trying to "Look Like" JFK. #2 would have worked for me. AND, BTW, even though #1 was chosen, what ended up on the coin simply does not look like the design.
Leave to CCAC to choose the design no one likes. Maybe we should start using reverse psychology on them - tell them we love the designs we hate. But then, his look is of one who knew he was going to be assassinated and there was nothing he could do about it.
I really do not like any of them but #4 would have been my choice: 1. Looks like Mike Mezak. 2. Looks constipated. 3. Looks like Alfred E. Neuman. 4. Ok 5. Not sure who that looks like...lol
I'm fine with what they chose, it's a bit different than regular poses on the other presidents and I like that. #3 immediately made me think of an Archie and Jughead comic book!
Ah-ha! That at least explains why they might have chosen that one. Thanks, @-jeffB! Still... it makes for a much better painting than it does a coin. I think it the coin looked much more like the design drawing I might like it more, but it doesn't look like him at all, to me.
I totally agree- it doesn't look like the design. But you think #4 looks too much like Bobby? Maybe it's because I'm from MA, but I don't see it. Still, they are brothers, after all, so a resemblence definitely makes sense. http://img.spokeo.com/public/900-600/robert_kennedy_2001_05_24.jpg http://www.coinnews.net/2014/03/17/2015-presidential-1-coin-design-candidates/ http://images.fineartamerica.com/images-medium-large/6-john-f-kennedy-granger.jpg
