I have an opportunity to buy this coin offered at $16,000.00. I would have to trade a large amount of my collection to a dealer that needs material. I buy coins more on investment speculation.

Is $16,000 a fair price for a 1795 half dime graded MS63 by NGC?

P.S. I hope I didn't post this thread in the wrong place. Sorry if I did :)

There is more than one variety for these coins and it makes a difference - do you know which it is ?

Id say that is a fair price - for investment purposes.

Here is a LINK to the highest last realized price from Heritage for that date.

Do you know what variety it is ? That may add value to the piece in the future.

Either way that is a big decision-:D

It may add value now Bud - as much as $20,000 more. Or - it could subtract $10,000.

Its more than I can afford too. I have been buying coins for about 12 years or so. I would of had to give back a bunch of my coins to get that one. I had this crazy idea that the coin was soooo rare that if just held it a year or two, that it would make a monster profit. I spent about 2 hours online the other night searching thru major auction house's archives and prices realized for that coin. There are 8 varieties and most are one of only 3 variesites.

Although the coin is indeed very rare, it is only worth about what he was willing to sell it for. I am pretty sure he would have sold it for $15,500, but I would of had to get rid of a bunch of really neat other coins. So I let it go. I suppose I would have to of held it a very long time to of made a significant profit!

Anyway, Thank you everyone for responding so quickly and with well informed replies! Adios for now!

They are going to offer me a 1795 Half Dime. The dealer has two of it and he told me that it is in G condition.
He don't know about the varieties of the coin.So he's going to show me the coin during the next 10 days.
    He is asking 1000 Dollars.
    Is it good price?(untill now)
I checked PCGS G4 950$ but,is it true that they are selling G4 half dimes 1795 for 950 dollar.
    or it's always lower?

$960.00 is the dealer greysheet ask price for this coin so the price is right. Your question does not say if it is a graded coin i.e. PCGS or NGC. If it is not, beware of the overgraded coin. If the coin is submittted to PCGS, would it grade G4 is the question I would ask the seller. Ask if they will submit it if you pay the grading fees. If they do not know or won't get the coin graded and authenticated, steer clear. You should be able to buy a PCGS graded coin for near that $1000.00 price. Maybe $1100.00 - $1200.00 but the graded coin is worth the price.
