Designers Signatures are doubled, nice curves on the " O " of OF and the " C " of AMERICA . I'm sure there more going on, but with my scope, that isn't happening for images .
I seriously think it's a DDR, and it might be a discovery piece. I looked at CONECA and Wexler's sites. Neither have this one listed. I'd get it off to Wexler right away. Look here for submission info: http://doubleddie.com/402401.html If it comes back with a good attribution, send it out for grading and slabbing right away. Maybe you can get a mention in Coin World or Numismatic News, too.
There no DDR yet for 2014, I have some coins I have to send in . Found lots of cool stuff lately and some are discovery pieces too ..
I also posted it on coneca, waiting on Mr. Potter or BJ Neff . I like Wexler to, Made a new templet last night and now I have three of them . This one is for leveling the coin so its plumb too, here a couple of images with the new templet .
Heres another sign for the major DDR for the shield cent . some call it deteriorated die of E Pluribus Unum
when DDRs are this small, I question their existence and use as a way to distinguish a coin. These certainly will not be a "1969S" DD. The one reason to note them is they dispute the Mint's claim no errors are possible on current modern issues due to hw the Mint modified its process several years ago to eliminate errors. It was a sad day for all collectors.
I do have to agree, at least for the shield cent . There are some cool looking quarters out there ( DDRs )
I did. I have seen this many times on coins where the light at certain angles make the image appear to have doubling. I would like to see what the photo looks like with the light coming from a different angle to see if the doubling changes. Can you humour me with this request OP? I believe the "doubling" will change direction when the light angle is changed.
I agree with the statement of being an issue with the light being reflected off of the devices. Also, a sign of doubling on the shield reverse is not die deterioration. Many times on a shield ddr, the incused lettering will be smaller and distorted as with the raised lettering will be bigger and distorted. One tip I would say is to use something to diffuse the light a little bit to reduce the amount of hot-spots and contrast. Seeing something like this through a digital microscope is pretty typical which is why I always suggest getting an actual microscope to go through coins. To conclude, I don't believe this is a DDR or if it is it would likely be too minor to list on any reference guide.
