Anyone else believe this is ms and so approximate value. I know the pics are rough but even though I think they show enough to make ms thanks mikey07nj

It's hard to tell. It could be high AU possibly MS.

Too much circulation chatter in the fields and wear in her hair . AU-55 if those aren't hairlines I'm seeing . A clearer pic would help .

It doesn't look like the 42/1 to me.

I agree with @cpm9ball, unless it's just the pictures that doesn't really look like a 42/1 which is usually pretty noticeable with the naked eye.

The OP claims this to be a D mint, and while the photo leaves much to be desired, I do see, even on this tiny screen, likely indicators that suggest he may (not without a doubt is) be correct in his claimed attribution. Of course better photos could clear this up fairly easily.

It's hard to be 100% certain from the photo, but it certainly looks to me like it has the "tail" on the 4 and the distortion around the left side of the 2. The 42/41-D is a lot more subtle than the 42/41-P.

I was thinking high AU, AU55-58 myself. I just saw wear on the lower band, which should be full.

That is what I read, 1942/1-D is more subtle.

  14. AU50 is my guess. Lots of nice luster, but some wear, also.

The 42/1-D has a pronounced doubling on the lower leg of the four and only a small (top) part of the one remaining under the two. It doesn't have the distinctive complete one underneath the two like the Philly overdate. It's hard to be sure with the obverse image, but the areas in question look correct to me. I'd call it an AU-55 and value it at about $900-950.

Okay these pictures aren't much better but as someone explained the Denver mint removed most of the 1 before cutting in the 2. I did show this to a local shop owner who grades for CAC and for obvious reasons wouldn't give me a numerical grade but said ms, legit and offered $1200. Therefore it is the pictures that is making it difficult. I apologize if anyone feels I'm wasting their time but I'm a cancer patient so between these coin forums and eBay it's all I look foward to. I have many years of experience but I've always asked for opinions because I'm a guy who loves to share my knowledge and feel I can learn from other people as well. In 2012 I bought over $1,000,000 worth of coins for a traveling show without one counterfeit. I can't take all the credit because I never let my pride get in the way of common sense. I often got second opinions. The guys that didn't would get back a coin a week. Thanks for your input it is much appreciated.

Yeah, I could still nit-pick about your photographic technique, but I don't think anyone can deny that it's the overdate based on the latest photos. As for grade, those diagonal bands still look really weak, but it looks like your light was coming from the upper left, which would tend to minimize them in the photo. Beyond that, I'm not always comfortable distinguishing MS from AU even with the best photos, so I'll leave it to the experts on the ground. :)

I'm still not convinced that it's MS but I didn't see the coin in hand either. I am convinced that it is a 42/1-D though.

The best of luck with your treatment @Mikey07nj
