Beautiful coins, JB and RO.... I have quite a few possibilities at bid right now and I won an Agrippina Senior sestertius and an Aemilian Provincial last week (which I already posted)....so I may have to wait a few more days to add to the list...
Great new addition, JBG (it's always nice seeing people buying new ancient coins!!) ... I've already posted this week's only coin-score, but I'll toss it into this thread as well, just for safe-keeping! Egypt, PB Tessera 2nd-3rd centuries AD Serapis & Gryphon w. wheel
nice new coins everyone! JBG, a coin of the that dioscuri reverse type is on my list! that LV denarius is also "hot" ro! well, i'll share the coin i DID NOT get this week. i just got a message from the seller saying that he lost this coin and couldn't ship it to me..after i inquired if my coin had been shipped...seller didn't give me a heads up on his own initiative. ...man, look at the cool owl. the seller also lost another coin i ordered and found a third, he should be refunding me on the lost coins and shipping the other soon. i hope.
I've had sellers tell me they lost a coin, several times. What happened in each case is that they under-priced the coins and didn't want to part with them. Because lo and behold, a few months later I saw those coins listed again at higher prices. I guess they must have "found" them.
When dealers do not want your business, do not force it upon them. When you hear they went out of business, celebrate. I know the lack of my business was not the factor that drove a couple guys I knew out of business but there is no harm in enjoying their departure.
I was just notified I won one of several auction bids---I seem to be winning one of every 3-5 or so that I enter....I paid a bit around average retail, with due-diligence comparisons, which was a tad more than I intended...but when you have it in the 'winning column' for weeks and then 'lose' it at the last moment, it's like you already owned it and someone stole it from you... LOL.... Anyways... Silver Tetradrachm of Antiochos III, 223-187 BC Diademed Head Right of the King Apollo seated left on Omphalos, holding arrow and bow 16.03 grams, BMC 25
Hello Mike, Nice addition, I am wondering I see lately many coins with such silver, how can I say sort of melted look, in the past I bought coins that never had that, how is that now suddenly appearing is that normal? or from cleaning? with? Any body a suggestion?
I just added two more 'additions' to my collection---losing out on one of three on auction bid. The first is a Byzantine 'gold' type I was hungering for and the other a cool reverse of a R R denarii. Heraclius 610-641 AD, AV tremissis; Constantinople mint, struck circa 610-613 Diademed and cuirassed bust right; Cross potent CONOB, DOC 53d; MIB 73b; SB786 16 mm, 1.30 grams L Rubrius Dossenus 87 BC, 17 mm, 3.11 grams, Rome mint DOS behind veiled head of Juno right, scepter over shoulder L RVBRI in exergue. Triumphal quadriga right, Victory holding wreath above Crawford 348/2; Sydenham 706; RSC Rubria 2
Every time I see a Republican with something other than a Roma head and chariot type, I am reminded I want some more. This quadriga is different enough that we can overlook it is a chariot.
