Is anyone here a counselor? I signed up to be one and made a pretty good power point presentation that gets the scouts through all the academic parts of it. Of course they have to do some other things (it's a MERIT badge, not a death-by-power-point badge).

If anyone is also a counselor and would like to see it, please let me know.

I have been a coin collecting merit badge counselor for about 20 years, give or take a few years. I always tell them do the requirements in the book or now on line and we talk, Usually you can see if a young scout is on or not. I've only turned down about 3 scouts in all my time. Love to see your power point. Pm'ing you my email address. Thanks

I wish this merit badge existed back when I was involved with the Boy Scouts

    MERIT badge
I earned the merit badge when I was a Scout. That was quit a few years ago. We had to sew the badges on our badge sash.

Good grief how long ago were you a scout?

They still do it that way. In recent years, BSA has been introducing new merit badges and updating old ones. Every year I read a report that shows how many of each badge were earned nationwide in the past year. "X" number of scouts earned the Camping merit badge, etc. As one would expect, the badges required to earn Eagle are in the top. Sadly, coin collecting is in the bottom half, but close to center so it is not in danger of being eliminated.

I was a scout up until about 2000 and a camp counselor for a few more years after that up at Ten Mile River in NY :)

I earned my coin collecting (and stamp collecting) merit badges in 1973. You could also sew six badges on the shirt cuff.

I'd like a copy. I'm in colorado springs at the summer seminar. Are you still in the springs?

I have been deployed by the military overseas, so I will not be at summer seminar. Please PM me your email address and I'll send you the file.

I received my Scout's Coin Merit badge in about 1954-1955.
