Another week, another LRB, another Lugdunum. This time Julian II. I haven't managed to get one of his Votives from Lugdunum before. Julian II - AE3 Obv:– DN FL CL IVLI-ANVS PF AVG, helmeted and cuirassed bust left holding spear and shield Rev:– VOT X MVLT XX, within wreath Minted in Lugdunum (//PLVGD), Spring A.D. 360- A.D. 363 Reference:– RIC VIII Lugdunum 239 (S)
I haven't seen such realistic facial features on coins of other mints. Is this the LG style, or a particular engraver's artistry? Very nice coin.
I agree great portrait. Considering his history, I am sure there was a better chance the engraver had seen the emperor in person there than about anywhere else. Maybe that added to the engravers ability to create a lifelike portrait.
Again => a very rugged lookin' coin, Martin (that is obviously a coin-look that you gravitate towards?!! => very, very cool look!!) => congrats on a great coin-score!!
