What's Your Most Valued Coin?

Hey guys I was thinking about a coin I found when looking through some wheat pennies my dad gave me, a 1909 S in AG condition it was found on the ground when my dad was on a construction job! Its valued at $100.00 (but my dad made me promise to split the money with him) I'll never sell it because of the memory of me and my dad in my early collecting years, just wondering if you have coin collecting memories like that.

2 1911-D $2 1/2 Indians. Both graded xf45 weak D by pcgs. Found them and bought them as 1911, found the D after purchase. I have come close to selling one or both, but cannot bring myself to it. If I need the money bad enough, I will, but if not, I might pass them down.

 

My most valued coin is definitely not my most valuable coin money-wise. It's my 1941-P Lincoln Cent and was the first old coin I found in circulation about 13 years ago. This coin is the reason I started collecting coins. It may be worn and discolored, but it holds a special place in my heart.

I found it at the BattleField Coin Show in New Market MD a couple weeks ago....

It's a pair of circulated Ikes, a 1971 and a 1976-D. They were mailed to me some years ago out of the blue by my grandmother when she heard I was into coins. Never got to thank her for them.

A distant second is this Chihuahua Mint 8 Reales as it's my only world coin that's not bullion.

 

This is mine. I just found it this last sunday at a show. I paid $7.00 for it and as of right now, there are only 7 known.

I have a 1916-D mercury dime that is PCGS certified at G-6. Yes, it's my most valuable dollar wise, but it's also my most valued personally. I took an interest in the mercury dime collection as an 8 year-old and went about trying to put together a date/mint mark collection. I finally completed it when I was 33, largely due to the cost of that very coin.

I have since learned to buy the key coins early in my pursuit of a date/mint mark collection because finding all the others becomes easy.

 

The coin that started it all for me back in 1963 when I found it while playing in a city park. WOOHOO! NAKED BOOB!!!

Finally retired 2 years ago after 50 years as a pocket piece.



After more than half a century of collecting I have 5 to 600 coins all of which are "worth" more than this worn out piece of silver...TO OTHER PEOPLE, AT LEAST.

 

A 1995-W American Silver Eagle which I purchased back in 1996 for $800.

 

My beat-to-death 1808 Half Dollar. It was in a dealers half off bin by accident and he let me have it for the cheap price. It's dented and holed right in the middle but it's what finally hooked me in for good. Money wise my XF 1854 Cent or my almost complete Aussie penny set.

 

I guess I would be like some others. My mother passed away a few years ago. I got her little plastic bank that she kept under her bed. In that little plastic bank there is a very worn 1942 WL half. As a child I would open up that bank at stare at how utterly beautiful that coin was repeatedly. It very much is the singular coin that got me hooked. Even though none of my coins are ever for sale, that would be the one coin I could see myself buried with.

Isn't it funny how we can get attached like that? I have an entire WL collection now, and literally have hundreds if not 1000 WL halves as junk silver, yet that one lowly worn 42 is the only one that has this place in my heart.
