You've probably heard of Canada's polymer-based banknotes, but seeing them in person is pretty interesting. They remind me of the consistency of receipt paper and are quite a change from paper bills. Has anyone else held one of these? What'd you think about them? Would you be for or against American polymer bills? Here's the $5, and it's pretty cool if you ask me.

I believe it's a "Canadarm," a device used to capture and manipulate satellites, astronauts, etc. in space. I think there might be one attached to the International Space Station. But I never knew there were Canadian astronauts till I saw this bill (I assume the astronaut's presence means there are Canadian astronauts)!

I have had Australian and Romanian plastic notes and being an old fogey, I don't like them. They just don't feel like money.

Polymer notes are awesome. You can put them through washing machine and not worry about it. Just do not put them near very hot sources!

They also may be a bit hard to handle when they are UNC in a bundle.

Australia has them and I like them better. A lot harder to counterfeit and they last longer. They do look like monopoly money but they don't have too. Just keep the same designs.

They may be harder to counterfeit, but to a counterfeiter that's only bump in the road. If they can counterfeit our newest $100 bill with all of its high tech anti-counterfeiting bells and whistles, then making plastic notes thinking they are "another safety measure" against counterfeiting has to be laughable to these lowlifes.

Several months ago I was in Detroit on business and had the evening free, so I drove across the border to Windsor. I was bummed out when my debit card wouldn't work in the ATM's, so I changed $10 US in a currency exchange just so I could get a couple of the new bills. They are definitely cool.
