I was going to bid on this coin but something don't look/sound right..starting bid at $510 for a $15K coin? http://www.ebay.com/itm/321783669331?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT
I agree just something about the pictures, but I can't put my finger on it. If it is legit and you get the coin then yes it could be a good deal. I would not have touched it.
It just went for $12,225, much less than list. If this goes through hope the seller gets good insurance when shipping. I would never sell that on Ebay, it would go to a live auction or show. If someone could sell that for $15,000, I could see someone paying that much for it and not have the fees nor worry about it being lost in the mail.
That's 81% of greysheet which is about right for a Heritage or Stack's auction with their 17.5% buyer's fee (and S&H).
Could you see a dealer paying that for the coin? PCGS lists that coin at $16,000. $15,000 would be a bargain.
Is it me or does the bar code on the reverse look kind of fuzzy? I thought that was a tipoff of Chinese made slabs. I would suspect a hijacked account. Its POSSIBLE someone who almost never uses Ebay, buys general knickknacks when they do, and has NEVER sold ANYTHING would choose it to sell a 5 figure coin, but I like to play the odds when I deal with such things.
$15K is greysheet bid, but I wouldn't have pay $15K for the coin. Too much risk involved to maybe make $2K. The bid jump up $4500 in the last 15 seconds.
Indeed. I've bid on a few such auctions. They helped increase my confidence in eBay's Buyer Protection, but they didn't add to my collection.
I actually just had that happen to me with a $6k transaction. Might make a thread about it, but yes, eBay buyer protection is incredible!
Buyer Protection is amazing. And if you pay with a credit card you really have no risk other than wasting your time. Seller protection on the other hand. But Ebay does it this way for a reason, if they ruled in favor of the seller the buyer can still do a chargeback with their CC company and then Ebay themselves is out the money. Ebay does not like to lose money, hence everything is in favor of the buyer in most circumstances.
I am certain the coin is bogus. The are only 5 VAMs for a 93-CC and this coin matches none of them. The CC is tilted left on this coin and only the VAM 4 has a tilted left CC but it does not match because on the VAM 4 the second C is tilted much more than the first C. On this coin, the first C is tilted more. Not a bad fake besides that though.
Here is what happened with the $6k eagle set: https://www.cointalk.com/threads/it-finally-happened-they-caught-me.265235/
