I called NGC on Tues about my MOD Mint OGP that I requested sent back & paid for.
They said it was shipped out May 14th. I ask for tracking #. They said they don't do that on returned OGP, just regular US Mail. Yesterday I get a USPS flat envelope with the cheap regular paper NGC envelope inside. It had been ripped open in several places. All the contents missing (Stolen?) including my orig. US Mint invoice for the Roos. MOD 5 sets. The postage meter said they spent $10.55 to send this back to me. But they could not use a priority box, padded large bubble wrap, a secure tyvek, or a rubberized plastic bag for more safe shipping. Very disappointed with NGC.
I called NGC on the phone & got the standard I'm sorry. The gal said that she personally packed up 500 return packages the same way & sent out Thurs. for returning to customers of the Roos. MOD sets. Good Luck to all those, if they get their OGP's back.

  3. Wow, they should have sent them in a box. What is NGC going to do to make this right by you? They should at minimum reimburse your purchase of the OGPs in the secondary market. Don't let them get away with doing nothing. TC

It's unfortunate when something like this happens, but I don't understand why NGC should be blamed. The USPS automatic sorting equipment has certain tolerances for thickness, and if one of the employees wasn't paying close attention to what they were doing, damage like this can happen. In my opinion, it should be the responsibility of the USPS.

This was 5 mint boxes w/empty capsules. Should NOT have been sent in a paper envelope. DOES USPS send a bulk fat package through a sorting machine ? 2015_MOD-Dimes-OGP.JPG usps_delivery_smiley_animated_v2_zps2ec9ef6a.gif

  6. Well, someone should reimburse the OP, whether it's NGC or the USPS. NGC agreed to deliver the OGP to the OP and didn't do what they promised. The OP should get reimbursed by NGC, and then perhaps NGC can talk to the USPS to recover their costs, JMO. TC

Wow! What a nightmare thread. That is really bad. So you're telling me that now there's likely 5 sets of these that had somebody's grubby hands on them and likely rattled around in their pockets till the shift was over? Sorry to see... :(

Their registered packages with the coins in the slabs have a Return Address of a persons name, Shipping Manager, PO Box xxxx, S, FL xxxxx

its sad that even the slightest amount of reasonable care and common sense was not used. The box was and is free for priority mail and they could of even saved money using a regional flat rate or even a reg medium flat rate box depending on geography.

Even if they used a simple low cost poly mailer they are darn near bullet proof it would of avoided the result of in this case NGC's negligence. They cost penny's in large quantity's and are rugged and wont tear or open without a fight.

Of course they should either replace the packaging , they sure have it as some don't want it returned or simply pay to replace it at market rates its there fault and they should make it right.

we all make mistakes NGC did in this case. Don't give up go higher up both email and reg mail. I want to see the result of this it concerns me that they caused the issue and are in any way hesitating to make the issue right.

Forgive my ignorance on this whole matter (both NGC and the coins) but if they graded anything, they should've encased and cataloged the item, yes? If so, you could report the loss here and see if you can enlist their help: http://www.numismaticcrimes.org/?q=node/add/report

I got the 5 sets slabbed & graded by registered mail from NGC on May 23rd.
This was the return of the US Mint orig. empty packaging, that I requested to be returned.

My results were posted in another earlier thread.

On Monday I would call NGC, ask to talk to one of the heads of customer service. tell them what happened, tell them you will email them pictures of the packaging torn open and from USPS and ask them to reimburse your for the cost of at least what you paid to have them save the OGP and mail it back to you. I doubt they will reimburse you for the boxes but I am sure not everyone asked for the OGP back and ask if they have any around that were not returned and maybe they can mail you another set of them. I suspect someone got an idea of what they thought was in the envelope and took it out thinking they were gonna hit a big score or it did get damaged....but even if it got damaged by the PO the contents were not hard to see and they should have put it all back in there. Just be sure to not be afraid to go up the ladder at NGC and really go after them. Remember that a bunch of them are at the Long Beach show so you might have to call back on Tuesday to get the right people.

The Rest of the Story :singing:

They said they would find 5 OGP boxes & capsules that somebody else did not request sent back. Yesterday I got a FedEx package that looked like a Mint brown shipping box. It came from the usual NGC registered shipping address. Inside were the empty OGP set boxes with empty capsules.
Their customer service Followed Through with their word.

    Thank you NGC

How dumb, why have "NGC" first and foremost on the package/envelope?

I'm glad that NGC made good on your lost OGPs. The thief took a big risk for NO coins. I'd guess he/she knows what the NGC and PCGS boxes look like and has stolen some in the past. At least you got your graded coins by registered mail. Finally, a good ending to a bad story.
