Are there different precedents for gold coins since its a softer metal, especially proofs? Thanks for any information.
In my limited experience, TPG's are lenient with bag marks on large gold and silver coins (S$, $10, $20). On smaller denomination (<$10) gold, not so much. Do you have any specific factors in mind?
Well, I have a $25 gold proof coin I may send in for grading that I think may grade pretty high, it might have one tiny speck on it under 10x magnification. Which TPG is the best for gold grading? Thanks again!!
I wouldn't spend the money on grading it. The $25 AGE will sell for just as much raw as graded, unless you get very lucky and get a 70. And the odds are a 1000 to 1 you won't.
I only have 2 gold coins (yay me) and i doubt i would ever send them to get graded. Some day, i may be able to obtain more and more gold.. only then would i be able to help in my 'experience' in grading gold coins lol
The lesson here is that when you purchase modern gold coins, you might as well buy them graded since you get the grading almost for free. But I agree that there is no point to spend money grading it. Let someone else spend their money for you.
Same thought line with the addition that most people grade coins for they think about selling them, just grade it yourself as dealer's grade and place it on e-bay. Hopefully you will be close enough and by the responses of frequent buyers you should be able to tell.
