Hi, this is probably pushing it, but I think I may have a 1992 D close AM

There is an easy way to tell about a Close AM or Wide AM. Find a penny with a known Wide AM, say a seventy something, then find one with a known Close AM, say between '93 to '98. On those 2 coins look at the designer's initials and compare the distance they are from the Memorial. The FG on a Close AM will be wide, and the FG on a Wide AM will be close. Yours appears to be close which would indicate a Wide AM.

    That's a WAM, normal for 1992.

It's much, much easier to just look at the style of G. WAMs have a crossbar on the G. CAMs have a straight G.

I just look at the AME. Don't examine the space between the A and M, don't examine the space between the M and E, just a quick general impression of the overall spacing of the letters. Do they strike you as evenly spaced or does the M appear to be noticeably crowded over to the left. (And it helps if you DON'T look at from too close a distance. You're trying to get a general impression, not make a spacing comparison.) If they look even it's a WAM, if the M seems to crowd to the left it's a CAM.
