If their not (which you can clearly see their not) using cloves to handle the coins, that turns me off of PCGS graded coins and would make me reconsider sending coins in at any point to have them graded. Hope NGC isn't that way.... any word if they are too?

    The
They are professionals, right? I can't imagine being one of those graders. Imagine how fast they have to be. I would want to stare at each coin a little, but I'm sure they have to work super fast

Not surprised in the slightest to see PCGS workers and facilities slackin....but not even wearing gloves? That's embarassing.

People clearly put them up on this pedestal, and it is shocking to see how "not special" they actually are. Maybe now people can see that they are viewed as consumers and the only thing that matters to the company is the bottom line.

Oh, come on, cut them some slack, they're making a market for investors, that's all that matters. If you're a collector, why even utilize them?

NGC do not either probably for the same reason: http://www.ngccoin.com/coin-grading/grading-process/#video

I can understand the concern when it comes to handling your coins without gloves. I can tell you first hand that wearing gloves make it very difficult to handle coins. I do have a jeweler's pad underneath my lamp as I grade coins for safety, but honestly, I need to feel the coins in my hands to feel comfortable. We handle all coins here at NGC by the rim and never touch the obverse or reverse of the coins. After 11 years of doing this, it comes very naturally and you never really have any issues. I will admit... my least favorite coin to grade are 3CS! Those buggers are small!

Well, since this is the standard procedure at both the top grading companies, does this mean that you'll sell all your slabbed coins and never consider buying another? If I show you a slabbed coin -- any slabbed coin, since they're all handled this way -- can you immediately show me how it's been ruined by the touch of an ungloved hand?

I must say, if you only collect coins that have never been touched by a human hand, your collection will probably be in really great condition, but it's likely to be rather small...

Will you guys please stop hijacking what is otherwise a really interesting and informative thread?
Hands can leave oils, gloves can leave hairlines. Pick your poison.

But back to the original topic, it's cool to see some of the inner workings. I honestly didn't expect the operation to be that small-ish. I get the feeling that everything is clumped together on one floor of an average size office building.

I've never sent a coin to a TPG'er and probably never will. I'm looking at a proof right now that has a fingerprint, skin oil toning creeping up from the edge, and maybe soda spray spots in the fields.

    Thanks Charmy,
You are quite an asset to the community!! I too noticed the missing gloves and the focus on speed rather than a slower paced quality. But they seem to know what they are doing. Great pics. Stay healthy.

I find that none powdered medical and rubber gloves work better than cloth gloves.
