You're right,Speedy said his dealer liked PCI but I will go with ANACS. Do I just go to their website and follow submissions instructions..do I need to sign up or join anything and is it an easy process? I'm a total newbie at this and am a bit nervous to send it off in the mail.
Yep---if you need any help PM me....maybe I can help. Its easy....and no you don't have to join anything... Go to the post office and ask for a Flat Rate $4.05 Envelope...put the coin and the papers in that and make sure they are packed good so the coin doesn't slide around...maybe tape it too the papers...then insure it for $100 (that will cost about $2.35)...then shipp it and in about 4 days call ANACS and ask if they have gotten your package...they might say no....because they get them and then it might take a day to get them in the computer but if they say no just call back the next day and if they say no again ask if they can look as you mailed it out 5 days ago on a 3-day shipping rate--if that doesn't work (and it will...they are super people) ask to talk to Mr Taylor Speedy
I read the posts in response to what makes a Trade Dol genuine, and or fake. I pulled one of my own out and it weighed 27.3 gems, but as was discussed on this thread, correct weight doesn't mak it real. I uploaded a couple of shots of the Trade Dol in question, and it has a couple of spots where the silver/metal rises into small hills? Mounds? Waves? Not sure what exactly to call it. Anyway, I think it may be a sign that she is a fake! Any feedback would be helpful! Thanks. Crossing "United," is one spot, and the second "0" in "900, Fine," is the other. There is one on the Obv that is hard to pick up.
I will try. I have no access to my laptop because of issues with Time Warner. I have taken several with my iPhone. The obv of the pict I put up a few days ago isn't good. I'll give it another shot. The photos that have the metallic, reflective surfaces is how it really looks. The other photos without that metallic look are the same coin but possibly the angle, maybe didn't pick up her reflective surfaces, but you can see a bit more detail in the non-reflective surfaces. I am not as familiar with the Trade dollars as I am with the Morgan. If she is a mint error, you would think there would be some mention in the literature about such coins! Thanks much for any feedback! By the way, I do have two samples of the Trade Dollars that were specially made to open, and I guess smuggle something in if anyone wants to see them! They are a bit worn and beat up because evidentially someone had trouble figuring out how to open them! Lol. Thanks again fellas! shot!
Yours is a Type II/II Trade Dollar which is common for the date and Mint . That said I've never seen any with raised sections like yours has . Other than that and the wear on the sinister leg yours seems ok . I wish you had clearer pics , but the only way to tell for sure is to send it to a tpg . For authentication I like ANACS as they have friendly sales people and are quite good in that area . Best of luck in whatever you decide , but I'd say it has a good chance of being real , maybe 60/40 but with all TDs it's best to send them in if there's a question .
