I had that problem with 3 of my shipments that I sent last week (ebay click-n-ship). I went to the main post office and had the teller scan them. About an hour later they were marked as delivered on ebay website. A day later they were marked again as received at the sorting facility. I am hoping that it doesn't cause problems later down the line.
I live in a rural AZ. town. I own my own small business & the building, Last month the postmaster came and said we are starting a new system. He attached a barcode sticker to the outside of the front door frame. He said that the postal carrier would scan this sticker each day they deliver with a small hand held device. It would record my business name, address, time & date. That is supposed to track the speed & efficiency of the postal carrier. I have had the same regular female carrier for 16 years now. She has always done an excellent job. All the postal employees here know me, because I have been in business 20.5 years here in town. Yes, there have been a few minor hic-cups of wrong letters delivered to the wrong address, but they are corrected quickly.
You've made us all think, and check, tracking and location of our items. I did, because I purchased a 1942 Liberty Walking Half Dollar from an individual in Orlando, on June 10th. Orlando is only 100 miles from here. The items still had not arrived. A check of tracking shows it in town now, maybe a delivery tomorrow. Good question to post.
I recently sent a package from California, to Colorado. Well the post office sent it to New York, then to Houston, TX, then finally found its way to Denver, CO, 10 days later. Since the first of the year this is the second First Class Package shipment I have had go the scenic route via the USPS. Talk about wasting money!
A couple members expressed similar concerns, so maybe it wasn't relevant to you simply because you have no coins in transit. Which sounds like a fail to me.
I have had packages that had one entry "delivered". Which his fine for the seller, it shows delivery. If the package hasn't updated then it hasn't moved. Some people think it is suppose to be there exactly or before the estimated date but that is not always the case. Has it been a day or two since it departed the area it came from or a couple weeks?
I have sent a small package 10 days ago. Moved fast at first, but after that has been stuck without a new scan for 9 days! It's just 50 miles between where stuck and destination.
My favorite is I bought something from Germany, went through New York and left. Didn't see anything for a week. Ended up in California, three states away. Left Cali and went to... Somewhere else in California! Stayed there a few days. Then to Vegas, sit there a few days. And then finally to me.
