what i believe i have is a 2000 D copper dime,it seams to be smaller then a normal dime,
even the head looks smaller .
I used a magnifying glass and i do not see any pitting in the copper ,but does have a little silver in it here are 2 pics for comparison WP_20150414_023[1].jpg WP_20150414_025[2].jpg

Interesting. I picked up a error penny in a 13 cent bin at a flea market booth today. It is copper, but at first glance appears to be minted on a dime-sized planchet. On further inspection, it's too small to even be a dime. I was about to post this in a separate thread, but this may be related. This coin is also thicker than both a dime and a penny planchet I own.

Your coin guy, Coin shop I'm assuming, can tell you what is wrong with your Dime. I think it's just a normal Dime with either toning or environmental damage. Can't be a Dime struck on a copper planchet for 2 good reasons -
First, a Cent planchet is larger than a Dime planchet and won't fit into the collar that holds the Dime planchet when it's being milled at the Mint.
Second, a year 2000 Cent is copper plated Zinc planchet. There would be evidence if it would be struck on a Cent planchet. That looks like a normal Copper Nickel composition.

Not every weird looking coin we see or buy is necessarily an "error coin".
By the way does it look like this? Yours might be a spooned Dime. Post Mint Damage.

Admin hasn't approved my photo yet. When they do I will post it. My coin looks like a weak penny, Lincoln and the Memorial are both silhouetted but lack detail, yet it is punched deep into the coin. The coin is smaller than a dime yet thicker than a common penny. Composition is definitely copper.

We would like to see your coin Bryce. But make sure you create your own thread. We will see it. Ask all the questions you want and we will try our best to tell you what it may be.

Yea, don't think I will be of any other help here. I have come across a handful of discolored dimes that look just like this 2000 D. Thanks.

Chances are, it's nothing, weight tells us all.

The head IS smaller. Because of the width of the three zeros they needed a little more room for the date so the slightly reduced the size of the head in 2000.
