2015 Blemished Gold Eagles

Recently purchased some 2015 gold Eagles from JM Bullion and all of them arrived with a dull blemished area in the center of the obverse side. JM claims this is a production issue with the 2015 year and is refusing to do anything about it. I'm not a coin guy so I was looking for some input on this.

Pic should be attached and thanks in advance.

  3. It is just bullion so they don't care. I would return it if you are not happy though.

"Not a coin guy" should not buy a lot of expensive coins.

Sure doesn't take long to meet one of you on this forum does it??? Thanks for your valuable input. Apparently, due to your vast experience, you would have magically foreseen these mint fresh coins arriving blemished.

Nice to see this forum has an "ignore" button...

Just to be clear, I was looking for input on the blemish issue. JM Bullion claims most of the 2015 run is blemished and replacing them would do no good... I'd just get more blemished Eagles. These were purchased BU and supposedly came "straight from the mint".

Sounds like BS to me but I thought someone here may actually have some intelligent input with regard to most of a production year being blemished... I wouldn't expect this from the US Mint. I'm also contacting the mint to see if JM's story checks out.

May as well keep it since it'll cost you like $10 postage to ship the coin back to JM.

Not just shipping... they also want administrative and market loss fees (if applicable).

    Welcome to CT.

If you just bought them for their intrinsic gold value, the blemish is no big deal, the gold is still gold and worth exactly the same amount as if it didn't have the blemish. On the other hand, if you want a pretty gold coin this may be a distraction. You may be able to go trade it out at a local shop with a nice owner who could care less about the blemish. I wouldn't much worry about it if it were me.

Does anyone know if JM's story is true? Is most of the production run of 2015 one ounce Gold Eagles blemished?

Hey, you wanted input, I gave you some. It is always risky for non-coin people to take the plunge and start with fairly expensive purchases. Start small, learn about these things before investing hundreds into it.

I completely agree, kinda sad when someone can't take a little criticism. I guess as a new member though, it does take time to understand the forums and the members.

@jwitten There are lots of people who invest in bullion. They are not necessarily "Coin" people. My brother is one of those. He is simply upset that what he expected to be BU or nearly flawless gold bullion coins are not as advertised. He called the vendor and asked them about it. They replied that they are all that way. He then decided to reach out to a forum for others opinions on if the what he was told was true. He does not deserve to talked down upon like your royalty speaking to the common folk. He's not out buying raw Double Eagle Saint Gauden's from some laymo on eBay.

@Coin Newb You have to realize that the hobby of coin collecting is typically a pass time for older men. With that said, there are plenty of Grumpy Old Men in this hobby. Just look at some of the posts regarding LCS stories.

I would like to welcome you to this forum. If I had bought the Eagles you describe, depending on the number, I'd take them to a local coin shop or bullion dealer and see if they would be willing to do a trade straight across. I've done that with a few bullion items I had that I did not like. Most of the time they won't care. Mostly because a majority of the people looking to buy bullion, don't generally care about the condition.

So does that me old and grumpy for agreeing with him? A little criticism and he puts a block on the guy? Seriously?

A little criticism would be helpful if you can give some worthy guidance.

That is not criticism, that's just plain being an elitist jerk.

@charlietig I'm not calling you a grumpy old man for agreeing. I'm just warning the OP that there are a lot of them in this hobby.
