Is there a study on the best times to have auctions end on eBay? I always use the assumptions of late night on weekends (8PM Saturday) to allow all timezones to still be up and bidding.

    Thoughts?

I always bid the same amounts on coins (in general), and win most of my coins on weekend nights. My hypothesis? Most people think that is the best time to list, so there are more auctions going off then. Because there are more going off, you have more competition. That means they do not sell for as much. I sell on weekdays because of this.

Very interesting... I still think most people will be active on Friday or Saturday... get out of work early, no work, relaxing while drinking some fine wine or a nice beer.

I used to always end auctions from 9-11pm on Sunday nights. Now I'm experimenting with weekday nights, same hours, and because it's easier to "start auctions now" when listing, I may start any night.

Feedback, 100% on 2132 transactions, probably 90% from buyers. ONE return from a nutty old crank long ago; by now, he's probably been submitted to that great Grader in the sky, even though he was slabbed before he went...

People usually say Sunday night. I figure Friday and Saturday night people are more likely to be out doing something fun. I've noticed when I'm looking to buy on Sunday night the coins I bid on seem to sell more, so I think there's something to that theory.

I try to end my listings on Sunday night, when possible.
I think jwitten's theory has some merit, though.

I put up stuff whenever, or I try and have them end a day I have off (so I can mail them out). I do see more items on the weekends, and it's obviously because people have free time to list things. More competition means better auction sales, not lower ones. Not sure how someone figured that

Yes, just like the higher a mintage a coin has, the higher it sales in the secondary market, right? If there are 100 of the same coins, and only 50 guys going after them, versus 20 of the same coins, and 50 guys going after them.... which ones do you think will sell for more? If the market is saturated during a certain time, they sale for less. Common sense (to most).

I'm not following still. I'd rather have more people going after my items than fewer.

I am not talking about the number of people looking. I am talking about the number of competing auctions. The weekends are FLOODED with auctions, meaning there are many many more options for buyers to buy. When there are that many options, the prices usually stay lower. I bid on the exact same kinds of coins every single day. I always bid the same amount (range). I usually win a lot more auctions on the weekends, and at a lower price. The auctions that sell during the week usually sell for higher than I want to pay.

So weekends are a good time to buy, but in my opinion, a bad time to sell.

I have mine end on either Sunday or Monday nights when I list an auction. If it's not Sunday im hoping more people see it while searching on Sunday night.

Does it bring more money? Don't know.

My experience is that I'm more likely to find a deal during the day on a weekday. It makes sense when you figure people are at work and most people can't be on eBay while they're working. However, there is a lot of junk for sale during the day. I see the most interesting and unusual coins for sale on Sunday night, and that's when some of the biggest sellers seem to have their auctions ending, so those are good reasons to shop then, though like I said, prices seem to go high. I buy world coins so that could make a difference.
