I think in all fairness, some of the negative of neutral feedback is unwarranted. Personally if I took a pic of a coin and saw scratches, I would call it something like "fine details-scratched" somewhere in my listing. He has got problem coins but they are evident in the listing. Problems can be subjective as much as grade can be. Some call this problem. Looks to me like it could use a soak in acetone but maybe it is a problem lol.

For those of you who call his stuff dreck .... well, I have a lot of this sort of dreck in my personal collection and I'm content with it, happy even.
Yes he sells a lot of stuff that is lower grade. In case you have not noticed, there are a LOT more coins in the lower grades than in the 60's. And lots of folks, like me, enjoy having a few of them. The photos are fair enough to make a choice. If it is not your cup of tea, pass on it.
I have never had a problem with him, would buy from him again.

 

Good for you. Now, let me ask you this: before making your pleased-with purchases, did you see the seller's name and blindly trust you would receive quality material, or did you, perhaps, use whatever experience you may have in an attempt to make a sound judgement? If the former, with all due respect, you're very lucky, but if the later, well, then this in no way disputes the fact the guy sells a LOT of dreck. Also, please don't confuse "dreck" with circulated as the two terms do not go hand in hand.

 

I'm with Books here...dreck does not mean circulated. No comment on seller, have not checked out the listings.

I too have bought 1 or 2 coins from this seller, but I am very cautious on looking at what he has to offer(as with any ebay seller). I think he should mention the problems with coins, especially when evident - not state it is a very nice coin. And for the prices some of them are realizing I just skip over most of them. Actually the seller has not had anything I have even wanted in years. And if you think the IHC's are cleaned - skip them find one you are sure of.

 

He could promote them, "scratched, corroded, what a mess!", like I did. He could just mention them though like "as you can see, this coin has a scratch" or "as you can see, the coin has graffiti". People are familiar with the term "details" if you don't want to say "problem".

In my opinion, two categories of dreck would be coins dug up with a metal detector*, or, recovered (underwater) treasure trove; they already have two strikes against them. A third category would be "Brilliant Uncirculateds" taken from a bag of 90%.

They generally require cleaning and rehab to pass for decent specimens, and their spotty origins are not always made clear.

*Yes, as a matter of fact, I did that for years, 3 different White's CoinMasters.
