here is a run down of my current sets in progress

Coins Released in 1916 (WLD, SLQ, WLH)
    -1941 WLH MS60
    -1926 SLQ EF40
    -1929D WLD AU58

this set is complete, but i would like a finer grade SLQ to be on par with the other coins in the set. i might pick up an AU50 in June at Baltimore.

    Winged Liberty Dimes - 1934 to 1945
    -1934 EF40
    -1935 EF40
    -1936 EF45
    -1937 EF40

off to a good start with this set. very pleased with the condition since i had planned on doing this in AU50 or better. this set will not contain the 1942/41 varieties.

    Lincoln Memorial cents
making progress. need less than 20 coins to have all year/mint marks and standard varieties completed in F12 or better condition as pulled from circulation. this was a fun set done with my son. i do plan to start building a proof set within the next year.

    Roosevelt Dimes
making progress here as well, but i have not acquired any silver from this series yet. this set is comprised of coins in VF20 or better from circulation starting with very nice VF35 1965.

    Jefferson Nickels
set is nearly complete in F12 or better condition from 1963 to 2003 from circulation. not sure if i will pursue this set as i'm getting more interested in Buffalo nickels. this was a "fun" set done with my son.

    The Future...
in the works is a Peace dollar set as well as a Buffalo nickel set. the current sets and the 2 in the works should give me plenty to do for the next few years :D

Those seem like some great sets to be working on.

    Right now I'm working on:

Classic $2.50 and $5 Gold Series'
    Seated and Morgan Dollars
Flowing, Draped, and Capped Bust Halves

the copper clad Roosevelt dime set is missing 26 coins. i have a container full of nickels and dimes to sort through and hope that i can find some decent coins to fill the holes. whatever i can get for the Jefferson nickel set will be nice, but i doubt i will pull many early date coins from circulation.

Good going! I love working on sets!!
    I'm working on:

Washington Quarters in AU or better
PF66 Franklins (only 2 dates to go...and then a few to upgrade)
    Buff Nickels
    Mercury Dimes

That will keep me busy for along time I feel---I've been working on the PF66 Franklins for a handful of years now but I just haven't found the right ones to compelte my collection. Maybe this year.
The Buffalo nickels are hard to get around here it seems as the dealer never buys the harder dates....I don't think there are many collectors around here doing that set.
I'm pertty sure that the Mercury Dimes will be done this year but who knows....I'm just doing a circulated set.....but I haven't decided if I want to add the 1942/1-D in the set or not. Since I already have the 42/1-P I'm kindof thinking about it.

The only set I'm keeping up to date is a silver eagle set. I've come close to starting a Peace dollar set several times in the past year, but set-building doesn't seem to fit my personality, so I buy more randomly when I see something interesting that I like. As soon as I hit the lottery, I plan to work on a gold type set. I'd also like to start a one-coin coin collection and obtain numerous examples of the same coin, but I haven't settled on a choice of coin yet. Naturally, this approach results in a random mess rather than an organized collection and I recommend that everyone avoid doing what I'm doing.

i have thought about doing a "snapshot" of a year of all possible coins in circulation. in the mid 1950's there were plenty of old soldiers still about in change drawers and pants pockets. if i picked 1959, i could have the new Memorial cent in the mix as well. a different approach to a "year proof" that allows for plenty of diversions.

    Steve,

There are a lot more ways to collect than date/mintmark sets and type sets, but they don't get a lot of attention. Your way is a good example.

and even better, the older coins could be in AG, G, or F condition - something more appropriate to coins found in circulation at the time - takes the pressure off getting finer condition coins. time to do some research to figure out what might have been common coins to find on the nightstand or change purse.

Good luck! You got a bit of work ahead of you. I am right now working on a set of Franklin halves, and RPM variety Lincoln cents. These will keep me busy for awhile, lol. Good luck on your sets!

picked up quite a few new nickels tonight after sorting a bunch i had at my parent's house. 16 new years/mint marks and i managed to up grade to finer condition coins on a few i already had. not a bad evenings work. in the mix were a few world coins as well.
