OK, I was bored the other night and was looking for an upgrade to my 1970 D JFK half dollar and so was scrolling through eBay. I noticed that most of the TPG graded MS65 pieces looked pretty bad and with prices ranging up to over $100.
Graded MS66 which looked alright were $600+ which I was NOT going to pay (who buys such coins anyway?).
So I looked through the raw ones and found this one at $20, and looked to be poorly dipped (but not over dipped) with residues and some yellow green color.
Well I bought it and it just arrived.

so I took a couple pics in the raw and then used my ammo is tricks (I have posted these elsewhere).
    So here is before:

And here is after (sorry about iPhone pictures):

I like the coin at this price point, but thought I’d share it.

The whole 1970 mint set should go for about $20.

Is that a gouge to the left of the bust? Looks like poor handling by someone.

Took a quick look, gave him $10
Upon examining it later, the Kennedy has a defective die error rev
Someone posted theirs, the same error but I can’t find find that thread
I only have the rev pics on my phone with me

No scratch. The coin in hand as an as-struck scintillating lustre and the pictures don't do it justice....I really wish I could show it as it is.

The 70 D Kennedy was only found in 1970 UC sets. And the Key date for the 40% series.
70 UC sets had the Philly coins Denver coins and the S mint business strike cent, along with the Kennedy half. These weren't released in rolls or bags.
I snag these 70D's up whenever I find them.
When you do find them. Alot of them have storage issues, and are spotted.

Yes, and my set coins look like that as well. You may want to try the ammonia which will strip most of the oxidants and leave the coin looking great. Make sure you rinse liberally.

This is from 1 of the 9 UC sets I bought years ago. all stored in the original mint package. I picked the S/S lincolns and quite a few other Varietys. Some of these in the right conditions can still turn colors like this. Here is a 62 quarter that came from the same style mint cello.

Edit I bought this coin as is, I rarely use anything more than distilled water.
I might use a cloth and hot tap water first, Acetone or xylene is rare.
