Why would ngc only want to cross pcgs coins? So basically if I want my old ANACS coins in ngc plastic I either have to submit them as raw coins or send them to pcgs to cross then back over to ngc to cross there and that's not going to happen. Why would you want your company to turn away thousands of coins that are in another slab besides pcgs. They're getting paid either way, so why would they not want to offer this service to the coin collectors? Looks like I'm going to have to sign up for a pcgs membership now so I can cross my old ANACS. It kind of has me rethinking my ngc preference.
Why don't you call NGC and ask them? They made the policy, not anyone on this forum. 1-800-NGC-COIN A better question might be, why are you spending money to change a brand of plastic. If a coin is perfectly fine is the ANACS holder, then what's your motivation for needing it in NGC or PCGS plastic? If you want to put it in a registry set, that's fine -- then just crack it out, and have it graded by the company of your choice. If you don't know how to grade coins and are worried it will come back in a details holder, then maybe you shouldn't be playing the crossover/crack-out game at all. Just buy the coin you want in the plastic you want to begin with (if that's important to you).
Maybe it's something simpler like the holders are too hard to open and they don't want to damage the coins?? Half-joking here because I actually have no clue how they crack open PCGS holders without using a hammer or a hacksaw, etc. They honestly don't do it the way collectors do it? Even a precision jigsaw seems ... unprofessional. Negative pressure or lasers??
Yea but wouldn't it be in the best interest of the company to grade and slab as many coins as they can. Even if the coins don't grade/cross they're still being paid for looking at the coins. Just doesn't make sense to me to limit your entire service to only one other grading company.
My only concern is that the coins I want crossed are all toners. I don't want a MS coin to come back saying AT. But yes they are for my ngc set.
Hello all, The reason why we (NGC) stopped accepting any and all crossover coins, other than PCGS, was because we were having a relatively low crossover success rate. Which in turn created conflict with our submitters. We don't feel it's good business to charge full invoice fees with such low results. John Schuch II (Grader/BDM, NGC)
Are there any disadvantages if I submit a PCGS graded coin along with my raw coins and do not check "crossover" on the submission form? I know I can't specify a min grade then, but I expect the coin to upgrade anyways. I have only 3 coins to submit and prefer using a single submission form.
