Just got my Panama Pacific coins from the Moonlight Mint. Love the design, and the coins are beautiful. Can we try and avoid flame wars on this thread, and just enjoy the coins (tokens)? They go to ANACS as soon as I get the second Barber 1916. Hopefully, some more MS 68-69 grades.
Very nice indeed Dave. Now, since there is no denomination portrayed (and 'medal' clearly indicated) the Nay-Sayers should stay clear..........
Very cool! I was thinking of getting a color-toned one but waiting until there is a pic up on the Moonlight Mint site of it. TC
Same here. My "fleet" coins and "Atocia" coins, I did get some toners. I would love to see the Silver toned Panama one before I buy it.
I notice you use the term coin in your description. They are no more a coin than a slug I find out in the gutter. While they look like self-stamped medals from "The Coin Vault" if you like them then that is all that is important. Perhaps we could have a section for medals, countetfeits, and other frauds. That would be interesting
Can't we get away from this insane controversy, and just appreciate the coins, tokens or whatever you choose to call them for their own merit? Also, if you have nothing to say that is nice, why bother saying it? The only reason, at this point to be hypercritical is trolling. Really tired of this garbage!!!!!
Agreed. Everyone here says "Collect what you like" but as soon as someone posts something they don't collect, they tear them down until there is only posts about what they want to see. If you don't like it, don't look at it.
No problem with these as they are medals not coins. The reverse may use a design similar to one that appears on a U.S. coin, but it doesn't state 'half dollar', etc. I don't think anyone of us who feels that @dcarr should mark his over strikes in some way; really has any ill will towards him or doubts that he's very talented. I certainly don't and I find his other works quite attractive especially the one you've posted. I do think that this doesn't belong in the U.S. coins forum though, but I'm sure a mod will move it eventually. Also the wording of your thread title pretty much guarantees you'll get controversy. This is the internet after all and your choice of wording almost challenges them to do so. There's always going to be those who post negatively and cannot hold a civil discussion based on opposing viewpoints. However, enticing them to do so doesn't help the matter any imo.
I am sorry if I was offensive. I was just making a personal observation about your medals. They are very nice and while I will never understand getting something like that graded if it makes you happy who am I to say?
I am not enticing anybody--I posted pictures of the COIN (token) that I got from Moonlight Mint, and the post, which normally would have received maybe 20 or 30 comments at most got over 400. It became a venting/attack forum for the potshots at Daniel Carr, and the legality of his work. Nobody is enticing any flame wars--I simply posted that in the hope that pictures of my coins would NOT repeat the nonsense that has gone on all week. Yes, they are US coins, as they're minted in the USA. Are they legal tender? No, but they are minted with a press that came from the Denver mint, and is now being used privately.
Those are some beautiful designs. I'm assuming they are base metal? If @dcarr really did O/S of real PanPac commems, you'd have some angry collectors based on the "destruction" of rarer pieces compared to the relatively common barbers/peace/ikes, etc.... Imagine an O/S gold octagonal from the MM. I'm sure bespoke items can be made? (Not that I'm seriously inquiring)
If you want to stay under the illusion that they are coins good for you. You wouldn't be the first to make that mistake. I may stamp a piece of copper at the Bearze Mint in my gsrage. If it comes out round it is not by definition a coin.
Not quite my cup of tea but I really like the design. They are very pretty with alot of eye appeal. Say what you want about Daniel carr, I think he at least enjoys what he does based on everything he has produced. Neat!
Seriously let's not be a Edited: Language The guy likes this stuff, if you don't then leave and don't comment on the thread. He just wanted to share something he got and enjoys. I don't know why some people have so much hate in their hearts and are so venemous. It definitely doesn't help anyone.
What are you board monitor? I have no hate in my heart I just have an opinion that is mine and mine alone. I often say it is wrong for calling every coin posted a Chinese Fake. In this country anymore if you dare to have a contrary opinion you seem to be called some variation of hater.
That looks cool too. I like the looks of that piece alot. I didn't know Carr did other pieces like this.
Oh, get off it. You're just ranting now. As I said, this wasn't a referendum on Daniel Carr's work--I like it--if you don't, do like your momma taught you, and don't say anything if you can't say something nice.
