Just wonder what you all think about the rolls this guy has available. Seems like they are bringing some good $$ and look like they could be interesting but who knows. I am not an interested bidder, just found them interesting. I think this is the first time ive ever seen rolls like this. He has quite a few of them so if you will look at his other items for sale you will see them too. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Original-Un...992?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item1a010e38f0
How can the seller know the coins are dated before 1904 while the roll is unopened? The first coin looks AT either.....mysterious
The "original roll" scam is an old one. Approximately none of these original mystery roll auctions have been legit. I wouldn't be surprised if the interior coins are Ikes. Anyone can print up roll wrappers and troll eBay for the Greater Idiot.

Unopened Morgan Rolls? Don't think so---this is an old scheme. Remember that MOST Morgan dollars were in mint bags, stored in bank vaults. It is probably a roll of low value coins.
Lol classic, it's a private listing too so you can't see the shill bids. I mean I could throw a bunch of Morgans into a roll close it up and technically call it an unopened Morgan dollar roll as well. I'm ethically against that but I can see how the morally weaker amongst us might be tempted to part a fool with their money. With the massive sums of money bidiots throw around buying stuff on Ebay this stuff occurs all the time. Not to mention the buyers who have prior to this opportunity had the great fortune to obtain some of this mythical retired bankers estate (50 Cents worth to be exact). Actually didn't seem to happy with what they found in those old unsearched potential gold mine rolls. Apparently the excitement of the listing didn't carry over in the actual product. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Original-Unopened-Window-Wrapped-Roll-Lincoln-Wheat-Cent-Sealed-Ends-NR-060-/121593667400?nma=true&si=1kB%2BK%2FYdlTBnUe8kP9ctS2vRZ9Q%3D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557
I was not saying they were contemporary to when the coins were minted. But the wrappers look old enough to be from the 40's and 50s or earlier possibly. Which would mean they were rolled at a bank later for convenience of smaller amounts than a bag. which if that was the case, some of the coins would also probably be circulated. But old rolls isn't impossible, it's happened many times before, it's just uncommon.
yeah for sure. I just found the listings interesting. I don't trust them personally but I just thought it was interesting. Haha
Back in the early 60s, I swapped dollar rolls at my local bank in Texas. The only rolls that I ever saw were the flat yellow tubes with the closed ends or the type that you rolled with windows to show the denomination. Both completely hid the end coins. That's not to say that these kinds of rolls weren't used as well.
I'm not so sure about this particular seller but I have learned over the years that everything may not always be as it appears or is meant to appear. A person would have to have some fairly disposable cash in order to comfortably bid on one of these rolls which all appear to be unique wrappers. Had they been all the same with an 1890 on one end and a CC reverse on the other, I would definitely yell foul but as it stands, I'm thinking there's a good possibility that these are legitimate unopened rolls.
I thought there could be a slight possibility but I personally tend to err on the side of caution. Not impossible though, which is why I first opened this thread.
Look at his currently listed rolls and items in general. It does seem like he purchases from estate lots based on the things he's selling. Then look at his completed listings. Those rolls all look the same in the toning style/colors IMO. These really could be legit rolls put away by a "banker" as a collection for each year or something along those lines. Wow. I always love thinking about truly new material of this caliber that sits dormant until an estate is dispersed. Then again, as CT always say, FAKE!
I agree it's possible. And if I posted some of the things I have found in collections over my collecting career I'm certain some members would call fake. But sometimes some real uncommon and unlikely things do get found.
Wow, it's up to almost $4300. This roll is worth same as a mixed roll of AU Morgans, ie a bit above melt. Someone is throwing away thousands...
I think you need to re-do that math, you are off by a critical decimal point. At $4300, you're talking $215 per coin. That's well above an average date AU Morgan. That is MS territory for most, and a lot of unknown within that roll.
