No, you didn't tell him to get 67% of "the value", but the MELT value; BIG difference. Hell, you even went as far as to suggest he consider the amount of copper, which is just mindboggling. As for your ridiculous claim that circ semi keys, without having the faintest idea of the dates, are not going to carry much of a premium, please.... Perhaps you should also take the time to learn a little of the series before giving your "expert" opinion.

@alyssacoins I am not trying to be rude to you here, but come on. We've a fella wishing to be fair with a family friend, who seemingly knows little about their coins, and he should be commended for it instead of being advised on how to best take advantage.

10/14 are slabbed by which grading company? And what's the listed grades and dates of the coins? Should be pretty easy to figure out values for the slabbed coins if graded by any notable TPG. Should also be pretty easy to figure out the value for 4 raw coins if that's the case.

You are right ,this lady is a family member of a good friend..I want to give her a honest price for these coins , if possible set her up with another good friend that could help her sell the rest of this collection. A good portion of these coins I'm not familiar with and believe someone else could help her more than I. I just don't want to see her taken advantage of ..
The 14 coins I am considering are circulated barber dimes , I mainly collect this series and as you stated even though circulated these coins would sell way more than any melt calculations.
An AU common date barber book value is around 70 bucks , selling for 40-50 on eBay.
I wrote down a list of these coins I will post the dates and grades ..

I went through the Coin World price guide and added up the retail values, approximating for the in-between grades, and discounting from the next lower grade for the cleaned ones (hard to value these without seeing them). Came up with $792 retail. Offer $550 - $600.

If you want a more accurate number to offer, research discounts from retail that you see on eBay, GreatCollections, and elsewhere that coins like those in the list are sold. If I were in the Barber Dime market, I'd do this and adjust my offer accordingly.

If the coins sold on ebay for $792.00 you would have to take off 15% for fees so the total sale would be $673.00 if this was the price I start the offer at $400.00 to $450.00

 

I had come up with a similar value, a little less than you.
I believe about 475-500 would be a solid offer for the coins. The two detail coins are better dates so I valued them at 50% of problem free value ..
I going to take this lady a list and total value of what similar coins have sold for , I will explain that this is each coin being sold and shipped seperate with eBay taking 12%.
It may be this weekend before I get to talk with her , so if everything works out I will post some photos of the coins and the price I end up paying.

What was the total value you came up with ?

 

The number I had came up with was closer to 600 going by past sell's on eBay.
Depending on how you value the two detail coins , you might get 650 or so.
So from those numbers in my opinion 500 for the 14 coins would be a generous offer.

 

Based on the advice from @alyssacoins, you should have offered $10.86. Let's all just think about that and why our field has an image problem and an "ethics problem".
