Yep, 'Chrs' and "JA' have said it all...

I have too many to list as a quarterly report as I'm seemingly about to win about ten in the past two weeks...but I'll post my wins from today and each thereafter as I confirm them.....

An incredible and beautiful assortment of coins Steve---CONGRATS!!!

Bad news, Mikey. The Histiaia appears to be one of the numerous fakes. The hairstyle is the giveaway. Compare to this page assembled by Barry Murphy:

From a Barry's post on another forum:

"These keep appearing in various venues, so I thought I'd make a composite image for everyone to study. This is a large image so it may take awhile to load. Images were taken from many sources and I didn't feel like taking the time to resize them all, so they are not to scale.

These fakes first hit the market weeks after the 1999 New York hoard of Apollonia Ponticas. They were manufactured by the same people. Like the Apollonias, these were returned to the source but have been coming out through other channels. Some are being corroded to make them look older, but the styles are very distinct.

Please note the style of the obverse with the flowing hair, pointing upwards, and the large pellets making up the flowers. This hair style is not found on authentic examples. Also notice the rather poorly executed reverse. On these forgeries AIEWN is always behind the nymph, although this does exist on authentic examples as well. ISTI is always before the nymph's feet. All have the wing on the prow, some very poorly executed and none have any symbols below the prow.

Please study these photos. They are all fake."

Well, I certainly can't be sure---I can be convinced either way..

I just won it on bid from Agora, so it seems less possible but certainly not impossible and I will contact them about it....

This is why I have stayed away from this series of coins. Too many fakes and the authentic coins are hard to to discern.

It is impossible for me to tell the difference without the info TIF provided...and so I contacted Agora and will follow-up tomorrow and probably will get an immediate debit card reversal for the amount...

Considering the modest amount involved--even less than the estimate ---I find it hard to understand the rationale behind producing forgeries of this type...

Hmmm, I wonder if the Chinese are involved in this too LOL

I wouldn't put it past them. In all honesty, I have to agree that I find it hard to understand the rationale as well; however, when you think about it, a $50 forgery sold 100 or 500 or more times makes a lot of profit.

What coin is it with the boat and oars?? A fine historical piece, as ancient boats are of great interest. Nice coins!! All, I am drooling.

Sorry guys I just don't feel like posting all the coins I got for this half of the year. So far I've purchased about 40 coins. I have one on the way that I'm going to be posting later.

Too soon. 55 received, 3 in the mail and almost 3 weeks left. I hope to have a couple more (eBay willing) but we never know which will go high and which will attract no attention.

I have over 30 purchases this year, and, like Gil, I feel too overwhelmed with other things to post all of them here. Heck, I still have a few coins I purchased back in March I haven't even cataloged or shown on this forum yet.

I had been intending to slow down on buying coins this year, and up until the end of last month was doing pretty well with just 32 coins bought for the first 5 months of the year. Unfortunately (?), the purchase of a few large lots in the past couple of weeks has brought my number for the year up to 140. So much for resolutions .
