I recently purchased a couple of rolls of pre-1964 nickels from an Ebayer's web site/store after having given up ever trying to relive my past youth by trying to see how far I could get through some Whitman albums just with pocket change. I'll bet many past English teachers are rolling in their graves over that sentence! I expected the rolls to be heavy in the early 60s, but to my surprise, it was heavy in the 40s. I think I've even found a 1943/2! The company didn't really say that the coins were unsearched, but in the other roll was a Liberty nickel! Wow! Ok, so the Liberty only grades in at Fair at best and a couple of 70s slipped by as well. But it's good to see that there are still reputable dealers out there. I carry the Liberty around as a conversation/pocket piece.
Nice find. I myself have had great finds on ebay as well. Ever search rolls from the bank? Had some great finds with these as well, even found a Indian Head Nickel.
I have a Jefferson nickel roll collection. I search bankrolls quite often, and save everything pre-1970 (don't ask why, 'cause I don't know LOL). It's one of the many ways in which I enjoy my hobby. Doesn't have to cost a fortune to have a whole lot of fun.
I do exactly the same, except with Canadian Nickels. (I also save all the US coinage, but I spend it when I get to the US, after searching, of course, and realize an instant 15-20% profit!)
I search bank rolls of nickels and save every thing pre-1970 as well. I guess that's the magic date. I find quite a few from the 40s doing that.
Me too, I keep everything 1970 and older... Although I do keep any nickel if its AU or better... My nickel craze is close to a sickness! I can't help myself, if its shiny I gotta keep it!! lol I love nickels!!
