Anybody collect Canadian Nickels? My Nickel habit has forced me to go North of the Border in search of Nickels (Errors mostly). But try and start with a set of Canadian War Nickels, very hard to complete in high grades.

I purchased a set on Ebay of "circulated" one's that I can selectively upgrade.

Also, there are some really nice Errors in C'nickels.

Just thought Ya'll might want to know...

Mike,I do have a few Canadian nickel 5c. coins, including the 1947 Maple Leaf emergency coinage one,& the 1951 commemorative.Canadian coins are of interest to me,as Canada is a Dominion of the British Commonwealth,& British Commonwealth numismatics is my area of specialisation.

I collect Canadian Nickels. Just need a few key dates from Geo V and I'm done all the post-silver ones. Got a couple of the "fishscale" silver nickels too. I'm not actively seeking them, but will pick one up here and there for the next little while, until I decide to focus on them.

What kind of errors are there in Canadian Nickels? I've got 20 rolls right here that I just searched, but haven't taken back to exchange just yet. (I pulled a well-preserved 1953, and a beautiful 1967 Centennial out of that batch, plus a few other less news-worthy ones!)

Theres the more common 'errors' or 'varieties' like the 1957 Bugtail, 1962 Double date, 1964 Extra waterline, 1977 Hi & Low 7, and a few others, but as far as errors like wrong planchets, clips, off-center strikes, etc, you really don't see many, especially compared to US coins.

Hmmm... Nickels eh? I got a few hundred canadian nickels, Up here in Alaska we get a ton of Canadian nickels, out of habbit I just throw them aside in a seperate container, I'll have to go through them and see what I got... I never paid much attention to them... Although I had heard that the older ones are pure nickel?? Any truth to that?? That would make a Canadian nickel worth what... a quarter?? Hmmm...
