Before I post this over on the World Coins thread, I thought I give it a try here first. I have no idea about this coin. It was a curiosity for me at $9 shipped. To be honest, it was an accidental purchase a couple of months ago in which I did not mean to bid - oops. But oh well. Now I need to ID the coin. Any help will be appreciated. Seller's image
Hmmm? ... => sorry brother, but these two are as close as I get to knowing, or having one of those ... France, Henri IV Huitieme d'Ecu 1599 1599 AD Cross Fleuree & Crowned Coat of Arms Carolingians, Charles le Chauve AR Denar 840-877 AD Cross Patte & Temple ... ummm, and neither of 'em are close enough, eh?
Im thinking its Venice, the design is similar but here is some. http://www.vcoins.com/en/stores/for...x_chalkis_hoard_very_rare/554192/Default.aspx
Well, I just can't tell. But let me try taking my own images and perhaps something will jump out. Give me a little while.
The funny part is that I had no intention of bidding. I use a proxy bidding service and I did mark this coin to bid, but with the intention of removing the bid. Being old like I am, I forgot. So now I have a coin I have no idea what it might be other than medieval. Actually, the coin was only $3 and the shipping $6. To me this is the kind of purchase that is a waste on so many levels. Now I'm crying over spilled milk
man, i just can't make out what the reverse is. so many have that cross on them. maybe cleaning it up a bit would help? there are worse ways to spend 9 bucks on ebay bing...no worries. http://www.ebay.com/itm/VTG-CHRISTM...311?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2ee239d437
I don't know, I am having a tough time. I keep thinking I see C A R, but I also think I see D O G. Not sure.
Bing, it seems posting it in on 'World Coins',as you initially thought, is the best answer---since you don't want it and perhaps they can identify it and someone there really does want it???
