    ROMAN AND BYZANTINE COINS
    Trajan. AD 98-117. Sestertius (Orichalcum, 33mm
    [IMG]
    c. 116. IMP CAES NER TRAIANO OPTIMO AVG GER DAC P M TR P COS VI P P Laureate and draped bust of Trajan to right. Rev. REGNA ADSIGNATA S C Trajan, in military dress, seated left on a folding stool atop a platform, stretching out his right hand and holding a parazonium in his left; behind him, two officers standing left, the one on the right holding a wreath in his left hand and the other extending his right hand and holding a spear in his left; on the ground before them to left, three bearded and draped male figures standing to right, the first raising his right hand to Trajan. BMC 1043 var. cohen 325 var. Hill 730. RIC 666 var. Woytek 550v. A very rare variety. . Good very fine. This coin, while known from a further five examples cited by Woytek, shows Trajan, after his initially successful campaigns in the east, assigning kingdoms to three eastern client rulers. His lack of the title Parthicus within the obverse legend, indicates that this coin must have been struck in c. 115/116, before it was awarded (the somewhat more common issues of Trajan with this reverse type include that title). The heavily bearded figures of the ‘kings’ of the reverse are meant to be Armenians and Parthians, but they are surprisingly reminiscent of Dacians as well! beter in de hand

    You have some very collectible coins for sure, this one included. The reverses on your coins are great and what makes the coins in my view, and this one is no exception.

    I just caught this thread today 'RO' and I wasn't really on-line here much back in January....

    I love the coin and think it has a terrific portrait and a wonderful reverse!!! I'd eagerly welcome it to my collection every time!!

    Hmmm, Want to sell it???:shifty::D

    I always love the coins I have seen you post!!!

    EDIT: We do not always get notices of all the threads--like this one for example---since there are always countless new ones created each and every day..

    Well, I love yours a ton more than any Fallen Horsemen type...yours is special!!!!

    I'd always entertain an offer if you ever decide to sell it---but I'd keep it 'forever' if I owned it LOL

    Until, you just posted 51 minutes ago (so it notes on your post) this thread was buried far behind hundreds of others...and I'm sure no one realized it was still here.... and during January most of the north was buried under snow and suffering power failures....

    Anyway, that coin is special in every sense!!!

    It's not a competition :)

    Sometimes the common coins get more activity because everyone can post theirs or add something to the discussion other than "nice coin".

    I'm always about to up-grade a large bronze of Trajan, but all my other 'priorities' seem to push it off a bit--- like my current auctions bids for early RR and Greek coins but one day soon... Any deep pocket philanthropists out there who want to help a poor, old, retired and disabled Vet out???? It may be tax deductible..:rolleyes::rolleyes: LOL

    My only Trajan's are a low-grade and worn sestertius, and a nice AS :)oops:), but they are 'pond-skippers' and you can readily identify the Emperor...
